Rockets' Amen Thompson exits; Sheppard out at least 4 weeks

The Houston Rockets lost forward Amen Thompson in a blowout win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday due to an undisclosed lower-body injury.

He took an awkward fall on a shot attempt with less than six minutes left in the game and limped to the locker room. He did not return, and the team did not provide an immediate update on his status.

Thompson was a rebound shy of a triple-double with 15 points and 11 assists when he was injured.

Earlier Saturday, head coach Ime Udoka announced that rookie guard Reed Sheppard has a fracture in his right thumb and would be in a splint for about four weeks.

Sheppard suffered the injury in Thursday's road win over the Pelicans, according to Udoka.

Sheppard, the No. 3 pick in last summer's draft, had his best game as a pro earlier this week, scoring 25 points vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder in a loss Monday.

The rookie, who has spent time in the G League this season, has been playing more for Houston in recent weeks with Fred VanVleet sidelined with an ankle injury.

Sheppard, 20, is averaging 3.9 points in 11.9 minutes per game this year and has appeared in 45 games.
