Nike gifts LeBron James sneakers after NBA scoring record

LeBron James became the NBA's all-time leading scorer on Tuesday night, and Nike commemorated the accomplishment by sending the Los Angeles Lakers star some fresh kicks.

The sports apparel brand gifted James a pair of LeBron XX sneakers in a custom design. The footwear is in a white and gold colorway, while the sneaker box and tongue have a marble design. The body of the shoe features an alligator print.

The shoes also have graphics that highlight specific points in James' career. The number 38,388, the amount of career points James needed to pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for No. 1 on the all-time scoring list, is on the sole and insole of the sneakers. Other imagery like a championship ring, a portrait of James and significant dates from his scoring journey adorn the footwear's midsoles and insoles. The sneakers were created by "The Shoe Surgeon," a designer who specializes in custom footwear.

James signed with Nike in 2003 and inked a lifetime deal with the company in 2015. The LeBron XX is the latest signature shoe he has released during his tenure with Nike.

James secured the NBA's all-time scoring record in the third quarter of Tuesday's game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, becoming the seventh player in NBA history to hold the association's scoring title. Despite the achievement, the Lakers lost the game 133-130. James can continue adding to his record when he and the Lakers face the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday.
