The Indiana Pacers named Chad Buchanan as their new general manager on Saturday.
The move comes with the Pacers in the midst of a busy offseason. All-Star Paul George is on the trade block after he informed the organization that he will leave as a free agent next summer. Several other players, like 2016-17 regulars Jeff Teague and C.J. Miles, are free agents.
The general manager vacancy was created in early May, when Larry Bird officially stepped down as Indiana's president of basketball operations and Kevin Pritchard, who had been the team's GM, replaced him.
Buchanan just finished his second season as assistant GM of the Charlotte Hornets. He spent the 10 seasons before that with the Portland Trail Blazers, mostly as their director of college scouting.
Pritchard was Portland's GM from 2007 to '10, before leaving to join the Pacers.
