LAS VEGAS -- Los Angeles Lakers forward Larry Nance Jr. likely fractured his right hand late in his team's 88-80 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers during summer league play Thursday night at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Lakers announced in a statement that X-rays had been taken on Nance following the game.
Nance will return to Los Angeles to be examined by a hand specialist Friday, when an update on his condition, along with an estimate for how long he'll be sidelined, will be issued, the Lakers' statement continued.
Nance, a 2015 first-round draft pick out of the University of Wyoming, suffered the injury with 35.7 seconds left in the fourth quarter during a drive to the rim. Nance went airborne and a Cavaliers player took a charge, causing Nance to come down hard.
He appeared to land on his right wrist and remained down on the court in pain before eventually being helped to the locker room by Lakers head athletic trainer Marco Nunez.
Nance finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds against the Cavaliers, continuing a string of strong summer league performances, but he didn't speak to the media after the game.
However, Lakers rookie center Ivica Zubac said that he asked Nance about the injury, and Nance replied that his right wrist was broken.
The Lakers will close out summer league play in a consolation game at 7:30 p.m. PT Friday against the Utah Jazz.
