News: 3 days agoThompson failed to score (0-9 FG, 0-6 3PT) in Monday's 110-96 preseason loss to the Clippers, adding three rebounds, one assist and one block in 21 minutes.
Spin: Thompson was ice cold in the loss, highlighting the fact that his overall value is perhaps more reliant than ever on just two categories. The Mavericks brought him in to spread the floor, something he can do even when his shot isn't falling. For fantasy managers, Thompson should be viewed as a late-round target, someone who could be expendable at times throughout the season.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Thompson split up the Splash Brothers this offseason, choosing to sign with the Mavericks as a free agent. At age 34, he is coming off his lowest scoring season since his sophomore campaign in 2012-13. Thompson's shooting struggles in the first half of the season led to him eventually being demoted to sixth man, but even then he remained one fo the best shooters in the league with 3.5 3PG on 38.7 3P%. Playing off Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Thompson should be in for the most open looks he's had in years, if not ever, so he still has some bounce-back potential even later in his career.
