Your quick guide to every team, pick and trade in the 2017 lottery

Where are top prospects such as Lonzo Ball and Josh Jackson likely to land? USA TODAY Sports

Editor's note (May 16): This piece has been updated with the latest reporting ahead of the lottery.

To help you get ready for Tuesday's NBA draft lottery (8 p.m. ET, ESPN/WatchESPN), here's our ultimate guide to every likely pick, potential trade and much more.

While there seems to be a clear top two -- Washington's Markelle Fultz and UCLA's Lonzo Ball -- the consensus really breaks down from there. Various teams have different needs, stand at different places in rebuilding efforts and carry various appetites for risk.

What follows is a team-by-team guide to the lottery. What are each team's odds of winning the lottery? What are their team needs? Who might be a good fit?

Boston Celtics (via Nets)

No. 1 pick odds: 25 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 64.3 percent
Most likely spot: No. 1

Key trades*: The Celtics own the rights to swap picks with the Nets.

Whom Boston should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 2 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 3 pick: Josh Jackson

Most likely pick: Markelle Fultz | PG | Fr. | Washington

The Celtics don't necessarily need backcourt help. Isaiah Thomas is an All-Star, and the team is very high on Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley and Terry Rozier.

However, general manager Danny Ainge has been in search of a superstar, and Fultz and Ball have that sort of potential. Fultz seems like an especially good fit in Boston because of his ability to play both backcourt positions. Look for the Celtics to take the best player, period. Ainge is a collector of assets. He'll figure out the fit later.

Alternative pick: Lonzo Ball | PG | Fr. | UCLA

Phoenix Suns

No. 1 pick odds: 19.9 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 55.8 percent
Most likely spot: No. 2

Whom Phoenix should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 2 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 3 pick: Josh Jackson

Most likely pick: Lonzo Ball | PG | Fr. | UCLA

The Suns already have two starting-caliber point guards in Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight. But Knight was shopped heavily before the deadline, and as much as Phoenix loves Bledsoe, both Ball and Fultz have more upside.

Ball is especially attractive given the style of play that the Suns want to run in Phoenix. Adding him to the lineup also gives them more trade opportunities this summer.

Alternative pick: Josh Jackson | G/F | Fr. | Kansas

Los Angeles Lakers

No. 1 pick odds: 15.6 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 46.9 percent
Most likely spot: No. 3

Key trade: L.A. will send its first-round pick to Philly if it falls outside the top three (46.9 percent chance of keeping pick).

Whom L.A. should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 2 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 3 pick: Josh Jackson

Most likely pick: Josh Jackson | G/F | Fr. | Kansas

The Lakers will be sweating it on lottery night again this year. Fall outside the top three and they'll lose their pick to the Sixers. Land in the top three and they'll have the potential to add the best young player on the roster.

The Lakers appear to be enamored with Ball, a local product who could add star power to a team desperately in search of it. But they'll likely have to land in the top two to get him.

Jackson is the best two-way player in the draft. His ability to lock down players at three positions, combined with his athleticism and playmaking abilities, have some teams comparing him to a young Andre Iguodala. Luke Walton should know exactly how to use him in the Lakers' system.

Alternative pick: Jayson Tatum | F | Fr. | Duke

Philadelphia 76ers

No. 1 pick odds*: 14.7 percent
Top-3 pick odds*: 47.7 percent
Most likely spot: No. 4

Key trades*: Philly will get the Lakers' pick if it falls outside the top three. They also have the rights to swap picks with Sacramento inside the top 10.

Whom Philadelphia should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 2 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 3 pick: Malik Monk

Most likely pick: Malik Monk | G | Fr. | Kentucky

The Sixers have nearly equal odds as the Lakers both for a No. 1 pick and a top-3 pick thanks to their ability to swap picks with the Kings if they end up ahead of them in the lottery. They'll also be crossing their fingers that the lottery gods push the Lakers down one spot so they can grab two players in the top five.

Philly could use two high lottery picks in this draft to put together an explosive backcourt. The combination of Fultz and Monk is especially intriguing. Adding two explosive scorers and ball handlers to a team with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid would finally give Sixers fans a team with real long-term championship potential.

Alternative pick: Jonathan Isaac | F | Fr. | Florida State

Orlando Magic

No. 1 pick odds: 8.8 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 29.1 percent
Most likely spot: No. 5

Whom Orlando should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 2 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 3 pick: Josh Jackson

Most likely pick: Dennis Smith | PG | Fr. | NC State

The Magic don't appear to be sold on Elfrid Payton at point guard. Even if they were, his ceiling doesn't come close to matching those of Ball and Fultz.

If the Magic fall to No. 5, where they are projected, Smith is a nice consolation prize. He's an elite athlete and an explosive scorer. He just lacks the size and efficiency of Ball and Fultz.

Alternative pick: Jayson Tatum | F | Fr. | Duke

Minnesota Timberwolves

No. 1 pick odds: 5.4 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 18.3 percent
Most likely spot: No. 6

Whom Minnesota should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 2 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 3 pick: Josh Jackson

Most likely pick: Jonathan Isaac | F | Fr. | Florida State

The Wolves are loaded with young talent, and if they strike gold in the lottery again, it's going to send shivers down the spine of every other Western Conference team. While the Wolves have Ricky Rubio and Kris Dunn, they wouldn't hesitate to take Fultz or Ball if they're available.

If they fall to No. 6, they have a number of intriguing options. While the Wolves really like Lauri Markkanen, Isaac has more upside. He isn't the shooter that Markkanen is yet, but he's more versatile and a much better defender. On a team that's in desperate need of defense, don't be surprised if Isaac gets the nod.

Alternative pick: Lauri Markkanen | PF | Fr. | Arizona

New York Knicks

No. 1 pick odds: 5.3 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 18.3 percent
Most likely spot: No. 7

Whom New York should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 2 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 3 pick: Josh Jackson

Most likely pick: De'Aaron Fox | PG | Fr. | Kentucky

The Knicks desperately need to add an elite young talent next to Kristaps Porzingis. Landing Ball, Fultz or Monk would immediately bring a jolt of electricity to the Garden.

If they fall to No. 7, they'll have a tough choice between Fox and Tatum. Both have elite potential. But with so many questions about point guard, it seems it would be hard to pass on Fox, who could turn into a John Wall clone down the road.

Alternative pick: Jayson Tatum | F | Fr. | Duke

Sacramento Kings

No. 1 pick odds*: 0 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 9.9 percent
Most likely spot: No. 8

Key trades*: The Sixers have the rights to swap picks with the Kings inside the top 10. If the Kings' pick falls out of the top 10, it will go to the Bulls. Sacramento will also get the Pelicans' pick if it falls outside the top three.

Whom Sacramento should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick*: N/A (Pick swap with Philly)
No. 2 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 3 pick: Markelle Fultz

Most likely pick: Jayson Tatum | F | Fr. | Duke

The Kings have needs at point guard, and if it somehow ends up that Philly gets No. 1 or No. 2 and the Kings get No. 2 or 3, they should be able to add a franchise PG to the mix.

Down at this point they'll have a tough choice between Tatum and Frank Ntilikina. I suspect they'll go with Tatum, a player who some teams think could be a potential No. 1 pick in the draft and a clear long-term replacement for Rudy Gay.

Alternative pick: Frank Ntilikina | PG | France

Dallas Mavericks

No. 1 pick odds: 1.7 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 6.1 percent
Most likely spot: No. 9

Whom Dallas should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 2 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 3 pick: De'Aaron Fox

Most likely pick: Frank Ntilikina | PG | France

The Mavs let Deron Williams walk after the trade deadline, and while they like Yogi Ferrell, his upside isn't in the same league with Ball or Fultz, who both would immediately be the best player on the Mavs' roster.

If they draft at No. 9, Ntilikina is a real sleeper to watch. The Mavs have the best international scouting department in the league. Were Ntilikina playing college ball, he'd probably go higher than this.

Alternative pick: Zach Collins, F/C | Fr. | Gonzaga

New Orleans Pelicans

No. 1 pick odds: 1.1 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 4.0 percent
Most likely spot: No. 10

Key trade: New Orleans will send its first-round pick to Sacramento if it falls outside the top three (4.0 percent chance of keeping pick).

Whom New Orleans should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 2 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 3 pick: Josh Jackson

Most likely pick (Kings): Lauri Markkanen | PF | Fr. | Arizona

If New Orleans lands in the top three, Ball, Fultz and Monk would all add an elite scorer or passer to a very frontcourt-heavy roster. It would be a godsend to the Pelicans, who really need an elite guard (sorry, Jrue Holiday) to pair with Cousins and Anthony Davis.

If the pick falls outside the top three, then the Kings grab this selection and get a shot at Markkanen, a prototypical stretch-4 who has a sweet outside jumper.

Alternative pick: Zach Collins | F/C | Fr. | Gonzaga

Charlotte Hornets

No. 1 pick odds: 0.8 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 2.9 percent
Most likely spot: No. 11

Whom Charlotte should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 2 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 3 pick: De'Aaron Fox

Most likely pick: Zach Collins | F/C | Fr. | Gonzaga

Kemba Walker just made his first All-Star team, but that won't scare away the Hornets from drafting a bigger point guard with better shooting ability and a higher ceiling. The fact that Ball and especially Fultz can play off the ball is a bonus.

Collins might feel duplicative with Cody Zeller on the roster, but he's a more athletic, tougher version of the Charlotte center. Even though Zeller went No. 4 to the Hornets several years ago, Collins projects as an even better prospect long term.

Alternative pick: Harry Giles | PF | Fr. | Duke

Detroit Pistons

No. 1 pick odds: 0.7 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 2.5 percent
Most likely spot: No. 12

Whom Detroit should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 2 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 3 pick: De'Aaron Fox

Most likely pick: Luke Kennard | G | So. | Duke

The Pistons haven't been happy with any of their point guard options, and Fultz and Ball would change that in a hurry. Both players would immediately catapult a struggling Pistons team into the playoffs next year.

The team could also use more shooting and landing Kennard would give the Pistons the best pure shooter in the draft. His ability to play the pick-and-roll combined his toughness make him more than just a shooter.

Alternative pick: Harry Giles | PF | Fr. | Duke

Denver Nuggets

No. 1 pick odds: 0.6 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 2.2 percent
Most likely spot: No. 13

Whom Denver should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 2 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 3 pick: Josh Jackson

Most likely pick: OG Anunoby | SF | So. | Indiana

The Nuggets have spent their past two lottery picks on point guards. Would they do it again? Absolutely, especially given the talent of Ball and Fultz. The team has already cooled significantly on Emmanuel Mudiay and while they are higher on rookie Jamal Murray, he can easily play off the ball at the 2.

Anunoby is an athletic wing who can shoot 3s and guard four to five positions on the floor. He's recovering from a torn ACL and may miss much if not all of his rookie season, but at this point in the draft he's worth the gamble.

Alternative pick: Harry Giles | PF | Fr. | Duke

Miami Heat

No. 1 pick odds: 0.5 percent
Top-3 pick odds: 1.8 percent
Most likely spot: No. 14

Whom Miami should draft with the ...

No. 1 pick: Lonzo Ball
No. 2 pick: Markelle Fultz
No. 3 pick: Josh Jackson

Most likely pick: Harry Giles | PF | Fr. | Duke

The Heat would love to add a potential star like Ball or Fultz to the mix, but if they can't, Giles would be a nice get.

Giles was projected as a potential No. 1 pick going into his senior year. A second knee injury last fall was a major setback, and he never looked anything close to 100 percent during his freshman season. But his upside is enormous. He has an elite combination of athleticism, length, motor and skill. If he's healthy, he'll be the steal of the draft.

Alternative pick: Luke Kennard | SG | So. | Duke
