A's to put 3B Gio Urshela (hammy) on IL, call up prospect Denzel Clarke

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Athletics third baseman Gio Urshela will head to the injured list after straining his left hamstring in a loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday.

Urshela left the game in the sixth inning with the injury and manager Mark Kotsay said Urshela will undergo an MRI and head to the injured list. The A's were defeated 10-5 for their ninth straight loss.

Also Thursday, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan that the A's are shaking up their roster amid a nine-game losing streak and calling up centerfielder Denzel Clarke, one of their top prospects. Clarke, 25, is hitting .286 with a .436 on-base percentage and .419 slugging percentage at Triple-A Las Vegas and is excellent defensively.

More moves could be imminent as well, sources said.

Urshela went 1 for 2 with a bases-loaded walk in the game. He is batting .224 with no homers and 13 RBI in 32 games this season.
