Twins SS Carlos Correa exits game with left wrist soreness

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa left Tuesday's 6-3 win against the New York Mets in the fifth inning because of left wrist soreness, according to the team.

Correa, who is expected to undergo an MRI, fouled off a pitch from the Mets' Tylor Megill and then winced as he shook his left hand and stepped out of the batter's box. After a visit from a trainer, Correa walked to the dugout and was replaced by Brooks Lee.

Correa said he has been dealing with the wrist issue since last season.

"The wrist is something I've been working on since spring," Correa said. "Just strengthening it, and I just felt a tweak on the swing and miss, and then when I hit the foul ball, I felt pain in the area. But [I'll] get it checked out, get an MRI tomorrow. It shouldn't be anything too serious."

Correa is off to a slow start with a .164 batting average and just four RBIs, but his RBI single in the third inning gave the Twins a 2-1 lead.

Twins outfielder Matt Wallner also is expected to have an MRI after leaving Tuesday's game due to tightness in his left hamstring while running out an infield hit in the first inning.
