No. 21: PURDUE BOILERMAKERS
Last season: 26-9, 12-6 Big Ten
Matt Painter lost A.J. Hammons, but the frontcourt won't be much of an issue with center Isaac Hass and Caleb Swanigan swallowing up most of the minutes. Vince Edwards is also back, so it comes down to guard play in West Lafayette. The duo of P.J. Thompson and Michigan transfer Spike Albrecht will be the key at the point. -- Jeff Goodman
Best case: Sweet 16. Matt Painter lost a lot of leadership and defense, with Raphael Davis and A.J. Hammons graduating. Yet Caleb Swanigan and Vince Edwards are back and should be All-Big Ten candidates, along with Isaac Haas, a presence in the low post.
Worst case: Early exit. Purdue has floundered in the opening game of the NCAA tournament the past two years, losing to Cincinnati and Little Rock after having substantial leads late. Purdue has had significant turnover issues the past two seasons, and this will be a different team on the defensive end as well. Without substantial size, the Boilermakers will have to be a better perimeter defensive team.
