BERLIN, Feb 13 - Soccer news in brief from around
the world:
* Bayern Munich will be without the injured quartet of Mark
van Bommel, Daniel van Buyten, Franck Ribery and Willy Sagnol
when they take on Aberdeen in the UEFA Cup on Thursday.
Ribery is out with a hamstring strain, while fellow
midfielder Van Bommel has a thigh problem. Centre-back Van
Buyten is still recovering from a bout of flu, while 30-year-old
full-back Sagnol is being rested.
* AC Milan striker Ronaldo has said he holds no grudges
against England coach Fabio Capello even though the Italian was
responsible for driving him out of Real Madrid last season.
"I wish him all the luck in the world and hope he makes
England into a winning team," the Brazilian told Spain's Punto
Radio.
"I have no ill feelings towards him. We've seen each other a
number of times and we've talked and there is no problem.... It
wasn't nice for him to win the league and then have to leave the
club."
* Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has said the team have
missed the presence of Samuel Eto'o up front and are hoping an
injury at the African Nations Cup will not delay the Cameroon
striker's return to the first team.
"Eto'o isn't our saviour but we need him for his class and I
am sure he will be really keen to score a lot goals which is
exactly what the team needs right now," the Argentine was quoted
as saying on the club Web site (www.fcbarcelona.com).
"We don't know the exact extend of his injury yet, but it
won't be good for us if he is out because we've been waiting for
his return."
* Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure believes that Ivory Coast
team mate Didier Drogba is keen to sign for the club next
season.
"We talked and said that it would be a good option for him
to come here," Toure was quoted as saying on the Barcelona Web
site (www.fcbarcelona.com). "But it is not up to me, it is a
matter for the directors."
