Fantasy hoops weekly rankings: Sit Bradley Beal?

You may want to think twice about using Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal for the week ahead. Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

You're in a weekly transaction league, and you need to decide by Monday evening who your starting lineup will be for the week. Should you consider sitting usual impact starters like Bradley Beal or Enes Kanter? Or perhaps starting someone like Derrick White or Marcus Smart, who might generally be on your bench, perhaps even your waiver wire?

As noted in the Fantasy Forecaster, this is a very unique week because four teams play two games or fewer. The New York Knicks and Washington Wizards play one game apiece, while the Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks play twice each.

Not surprisingly, after running through the projections, every player on all four of these teams fell into the 'potentially sittable' range in the rankings below. On the flip side, only eight teams have four games this week, and thus the potentially startable list is dominated with players from the Boston Celtics, Charlotte Hornets, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, Detroit Pistons and LA Clippers.

Jeff Teague is on the 'startable' list and Derrick Rose on the 'sittable' list, but that is entirely due to the projection that Rose might sit some games next week. If it is announced before Monday that Rose is likely to play, their projections would shift accordingly.

Marvin Bagley III is back from injury and has three games, but he is clearly playing into shape on limited minutes, and once the Forecaster rankings were factored in, he ended up with a potentially sittable score.

Methodology

The "potentially startable" list is generally comprised of players ranked below 80th in the season-long points rankings who ended up among the top-100 projected players for this week utilizing the Forecaster. Conversely, the "potentially sittable" list is generally comprised of players ranked in the top 100 of the season-long points rankings who ended up outside of the top-120 projected players for this week utilizing the Forecaster (or who are in the 120 range but projected much lower for the week).

There is also some correction for injury, so a player with injury question marks may have his value lowered enough to end up on the sittable list even if he's not officially out. Similarly, an understudy would get a boost in value if he is expected to play, and that could land him in the startable category. Finally, I have the license to add players to either list even if they don't fit the exact criteria, but if I feel that it is close enough to be of interest.
