In the latest chapter of the "Civil War" of the North American League of Legends Championship Series on Sunday in Los Angeles, Cloud9 took a 2-0 sweep over FlyQuest.
If it wasn't for the storylines coming into this series, Cloud9's victory would've been unremarkable. FlyQuest (4-12, 13-26 match record) was clearly not up to snuff against C9 (10-6, 24-17 match record), which was led by mid lane ace and MVP frontrunner Nicolaj "Jensen" Jensen.
Whether it was his Syndra in Game 1 or LeBlanc in Game 2, Jensen's ability to hard carry games was put on full display against FlyQuest's weaker mechanics. That's not to say that FlyQuest mid Hai "Hai" Du Lam got smashed in the one-on-one matchup; Cloud9 is knows for pulling the support and jungler to help get Jensen ahead. Still, the effectiveness of that strategy could not be denied as Jensen gave C9 early leads in both games.
The rest of Cloud9 was fine -- nobody stepped up like Jensen did -- but, then again, Cloud9's play style of late has revolved around the rest of C9 making sacrifices and putting Jensen in a position to shine.
This series was extremely predictable in how it played out, but FlyQuest managed to show some life throughout the series. Top laner An "Balls" Le looked solid on his legacy Rumble in Game 1, put his performance ultimately fell short of Jensen's 11/1/5 KDA (kills/deaths/assists).
While the rest of FlyQuest, particularly the bottom lane, fed in Game 1, it wouldn't come close to the decimation that took place in Game 2. Jensen's LeBlanc carved through FlyQuest like a hot knife through butter, and Hai's Orianna was desperately far behind by the time Jensen roamed and picked on FlyQuest's bottom lane.
Cloud9 looks to be picking up steam heading into playoffs, but while it's easy to be impressed with a 23-minute Game 2 win where Jensen picks up a 14/1/5 KDA for 86 percent kill participation, it remains to be seen how Cloud9 will do against the more competent teams come playoff time.
Cloud9 plays next against Team EnVyUs at 3 p.m. ET Saturday, while FlyQuest looks to take a win over Team Liquid the same day at 6 p.m. ET.
