ESPN to Host V For Victory Television Event on ABC

Despite an unusual and difficult year, ESPN remains steadfast in its commitment to funding critical cancer research through the important work of the V Foundation. During ESPYS Week, ESPN raised $3.9 million, the majority of which was directed toward the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund. These raised funds will go a long way, especially in these times, to fund critical research to tackle this disease and improve outcomes for African Americans and other groups disproportionately affected by cancer. As COVID-19 continues affecting vulnerable communities, including cancer patients and "thrivers," ESPN is reminded why it is "all in" for the fight against cancer, because now, more than ever, cancer patients and survivors need help.

To continue its support for the V Foundation, ESPN will host a special, V for Victory on Saturday, August 8 at 2 p.m. ET on ABC to highlight the power and hope of cancer survivor stories from sports and the critical nature of funding cancer research in this moment. The special will shine a light on cancer survivor stories and the urgency to fund cancer research during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kevin Negandhi will host the show, and Hannah Storm and Jay Bilas, as well as Katie Couric, will conduct interviews with special guests. Guests include University of Minnesota football player Casey O'Brien, a five-time cancer survivor, and Leah Still, the recipient of the 2015 Jimmy V Perseverance Award and daughter of former NFL player Devon Still. The special will also include a reflection of Stuart Scott, as ESPN will highlight the importance of the Stuart Scott Memorial Cancer Research Fund to improve outcomes for African Americans and other groups disproportionately affected by cancer.
