Dallas Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons will miss the remainder of the postseason because of a right knee injury.
The Mavericks provided the update on Parsons on Wednesday. Coach Rick Carlisle said surgery is a certainty for Parsons, but he did not know specifics about the operation Parsons will undergo.
"This is a 26-year-old kid who's a big part of our present and a big part of our future, who had a terrific year for us and got better and better as the season went on," Carlisle said. "And anytime surgery enters the equation, it's not a good thing. I talked to him today. He's extremely disappointed, but the important thing is to find the right surgical situation, get to it as quickly as possible so that he can begin his recovery as quickly as possible and have a great summer and get ready for next year."
Parsons was examined by team doctors Wednesday after missing Dallas' loss to the Houston Rockets, his former team, in Game 2 of the division rivals' first-round playoff series Tuesday.
The injury caused Parsons to miss the final six games of the regular season before he returned for Game 1 against Houston. He played 37 minutes in the series-opening loss despite obviously dealing with pain, scoring 10 points on 5-of-15 shooting and grabbing six rebounds.
