Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan has decided to part ways with Lucknow Super Giants a year after he took charge as the team mentor. ESPNcricinfo has learned that Zaheer formally informed LSG on Thursday about his decision to leave.
While the development is likely to surprise those on the outside, it is understood that the main reason Zaheer quit was that he realised the vision he had for the franchise when he joined last year was not aligned with key personnel in the leadership group: head coach Justin Langer and LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka. While Zaheer's relationship with the franchise captain Rishabh Pant remains strong, he was affected by the cluttered thinking, which played a role in LSG sliding down the points table in the second half of the season.
