177 - Ibrahim Zadran's score against England is the highest for Afghanistan in ODIs, bettering his own 162 against Sri Lanka in 2022 in Pallekele.
Zadran was the first to score a hundred for Afghanistan at the ODI World Cup when he hit 129* against Australia in 2023. He is now their first batter to score a century at the Champions Trophy.
1 - Zadran's 177 is also the highest individual score at the Champions Trophy. Ben Duckett's 165 against Australia at the same venue on Saturday was the previous highest score.
113 - Runs Afghanistan scored in their last ten overs on Wednesday. Only twice have they scored more in this phase in ODIs (where ball-by-ball data is available): 130 against UAE in 2014 and 122 against Zimbabwe in 2018.
Afghanistan pulled this off after scoring only 39 for the loss of three wickets in their first ten overs. They enjoyed an active middle phase (11-40 overs), where they scored 173 runs.
70.77 - Zadran's strike rate over the first 50 balls over his ODI career. His strike rate after facing 50 balls goes up to 101.12. His innings against England was no different - only 33 runs came off his first 50 balls, and he scored 144 in the following 96.
6 - Wickets lost by Afghanistan off short and short-of-good length balls from fast bowlers in their previous match, against South Africa. They scored 89 runs off the 87 balls on those lengths in that game, having hit 12 boundaries, including two sixes.
However, against England, Afghanistan scored 80 off 89 balls with those parameters, with only Rahmat Shah getting out.
3 - Wickets taken by Jofra Archer in the first powerplay on Wednesday, the most he has taken in the first ten overs of an ODI innings. It was also the first time took three wickets in the first ten overs in 13 ODIs since 2024.
Archer completed 50 ODI wickets with the first of his three strikes on Wednesday, in his 30th match. He is the quickest England bowler to get there. James Anderson was the previous fastest, having needed 31 ODIs.
Archer, however, didn't have a great end to his work day, conceding 64 runs in his ten overs. He conceded 20 runs in the 44th over, the most expensive over of his ODI career.
2019 - That was the last time Joe Root scored an ODI century. His hundred against Afghanistan was his first since he scored 100* against West Indies during the 2019 World Cup. After that, Root went 36 ODI innings without scoring a hundred over a nearly six-year span, though he made ten fifties in that period.
6 - Consecutive defeats for England in men's ODIs, a streak that began during their tour of the West Indies last November. The previous instance of England losing six straight ODIs was in 2009 when they were 6-0 down against Australia in a seven-match home series.
3 - Fast bowlers to take a five-wicket haul for Afghanistan in ODIs, including Azmatullah Omarzai against England. Gulbadin Naib took a six-wicket haul against Ireland in 2019, while Hamid Hassan took a five-for against UAE in 2014.
His five-wicket haul was also the first by an Afghanistan bowler at an ICC ODI event.
Omarzai scored 41 runs to go with his five-for. Only Sachin Tendulkar had scored 40-plus runs and taken four-plus wickets in a Champions Trophy match before this. Tendulkar scored 141 and took four wickets against Australia in the 1998 edition.
11 - Hundreds scored in seven completed matches in this tournament so far, the most in one edition of the Champions Trophy, surpassing the ten scored in both 2002 and 2017.
21 - Innings Ben Duckett needed to complete 1000 runs in ODIs, making him the joint-quickest to the milestone among England men's cricketers, alongside Kevin Pietersen, Jonathan Trott and Dawid Malan.
