END OF OVER:
20 | 21 Runs | IU: 247/2 | RR: 12.35

  • Usman Khawaja105 (56b)
  • Brandon King46 (22b)
  • Umaid Asif4-0-54-0
  • Sameen Gul4-0-56-1

7.03 pm Islamabad make their way out to the middle. Needless to use the old cliche, but the powerplay here could be decisive, either way...Zazai and Kamran Akmal are the openers for the Zalmi

Chikke: "Mark my words, PZ will chase this down in 19.3 overs with 4 wickets in hand" --- Won't complain if they do that!

6.58 pm Thanks Peter. That was fun, wasn't it? Hilal Hassan did predict a 200+ total for Islamabad, which he said would be chased down. I repeat what I said then. We are in for some serious fun through the rest of the evening then, aren't we!

Looking at this fabulous captain's knock from Usman Khawaja, can we say mission accomplished? This was an interview from just earlier this month with ESPNcricinfo's Danyal Rasool.

As dominant as this innings was by Islamabad, the pitch is so flat that you never know if Peshawar can chase this down. Yes there were boundaries galore, but an awful lot of dot balls missed out on as well. Stranger things have happened. Debayan will be back on to start the second innings.

1
Umaid Asif to Khawaja, 1 run, dropped! Banged in short on the stumps, top edged hook is spilled very clumsily at deep fine leg by Abrar Ahmed who gift wraps an asterisk to Khawaja. The stand-in captain will end the innings not out and Islamabad ends with a PSL record score of 247 for 2, beating their own record by nine runs.
19.5
2
Umaid Asif to Khawaja, 2 runs, carbon copy of the previous ball, they come back for the second again so King won't have a shot at getting his own half-century.
19.4
2
Umaid Asif to Khawaja, 2 runs, short on the stumps, pulled through midwicket.
19.3
6
Umaid Asif to Khawaja, SIX, yes he can! Length ball on middle stump, Khawaja muscles this flat over the bowler's head and it careens into the fence beyond the rope. Khawaja punches the air and rips off his helmet to show off the headband after bringing up his ton. And he's notched the PSL team innings record at the same time.

Khawaja can break the PSL innings record and bring up a ton all in one shot. Three to go for the team scoring mark, six for his century. Can he do it all in one go?

19.2
6
Umaid Asif to Khawaja, SIX, length on fifth stump, Khawaja goes across his stumps and belts this with disdain over long-off.
19.1
4
Umaid Asif to Khawaja, FOUR, full and wide in the slot on fifth stump, Khawaja leans back and clatters this over cover, beats the sweeper with ease.

END OF OVER:
19 | 11 Runs | IU: 226/2 | RR: 11.89

  • Brandon King46 (22b)
  • Usman Khawaja84 (50b)
  • Sameen Gul4-0-56-1
  • Umaid Asif3-0-33-0

Islamabad now have the two highest totals in PSL history. Can they surpass their own 238? 13 in this over will do it.

18.6
4
Sameen Gul to King, FOUR, too full on fourth stump, punches this very firmly and beats the man at long-off diving right. Very good over bowled by Sameen but unlucky with a thick edge going for four and two slack pieces of fielding turning into more runs too.
18.5
2
Sameen Gul to King, 2 runs, another wide yorker, slices this off a thick edge to deep third man, very sloppy fumble by Umaid turns an easy single into two.
18.4
4
Sameen Gul to King, FOUR, nearly gets the wide yorker spot on again, King is nearly defeated but gets a thick edge and third man is wide enough to ensure he has no chance to cut that off as it turns into another boundary.
18.3
0
Sameen Gul to King, no run, wide yorker on fifth stump, King flails over the top. Good death bowling here from Sameen.
18.2
0
Sameen Gul to King, no run, full and wide, goes to carve through the off side and is beaten.
18.1
1
Sameen Gul to Khawaja, 1 run, full and wide, slapped in the air flat to the cover sweeper.

Sameen back for his final over.

END OF OVER:
18 | 16 Runs | IU: 215/2 | RR: 11.94

  • Brandon King36 (17b)
  • Usman Khawaja83 (49b)
  • Umaid Asif3-0-33-0
  • Wahab Riaz4-0-36-0

MNKhan: "IU hit the jackpot in replacement draft. Not many would have rated Usman Khawaja as T20 except those who know his performances in big bash in recent years". He's certainly been the hard luck man of Australian cricket in recent years. Would probably be a first choice pick in many other international sides but there's a logjam at the top down under.

17.6
0
Umaid Asif to King, no run, short and wide, slapped to extra cover on the ring.

238 is the record score at the PSL. King and Khawaja have it in the crosshairs at the moment.

17.5
6
Umaid Asif to King, SIX, tries a slower ball that goes awry landing full on fourth stump, King not fooled and heaves this high and deep over long-on.
17.4
4
Umaid Asif to King, FOUR, back of a length on fourth stump, goes for a big leg side heave and a thick inside edge skittles through backward square for a boundary.
17.3
4
Umaid Asif to King, FOUR, plenty of bat on this one though! Too full on fourth stump, gets on a knee to cream a drive through extra cover to the wide long-off rope.
17.2
0
Umaid Asif to King, no run, King can't get bat on this one bowled on a length outside off.
17.1
2
Umaid Asif to King, 2 runs, dropped! Length ball on fifth stump, King tries to slap this over mid-off and Rovman Powell gets twisted up in knots trying to run back to claim this. Looks like it just grazes off his fingertips, if he got any touch to it at all. It results in two and a 200 up for Islamabad.

Umaid back now for his third over at the death.

END OF OVER:
17 | 16 Runs | IU: 199/2 | RR: 11.70

  • Usman Khawaja83 (49b)
  • Brandon King20 (11b)
  • Wahab Riaz4-0-36-0
  • Waqar Salamkheil3-0-38-0

Courtesy of Debayan having fun on Statsguru, Islamabad United have only gone past 200 once before in PSL history, and that remains the highest total in the league's history. But they're one strike away from doing it now with three overs left.

16.6
4
Wahab Riaz to Khawaja, FOUR, too full and too straight on the legs, flicks this away behind square and Khawaja ends the over as he started it.
16.5
0
Wahab Riaz to Khawaja, no run, length ball on fifth stump now, Khawaja swings and misses for the second time in a row.
16.4
0
Wahab Riaz to Khawaja, no run, full on fourth stump, beaten finally trying to drive.

Bilal Ahmed: "Every player that IU picked has split gold. No wonder they are the table toppers,"

16.3
4
Wahab Riaz to Khawaja, FOUR, wide yorker this time, but Khawaja opens the face to redirect this behind point. All wrists and uses Wahab's pace against him exquisitely.
16.2
4
Wahab Riaz to Khawaja, FOUR, too full on the legs, Khawaja steps across his crease and ramps this over fine leg, also up in the ring, for another boundary.
16.1
4
Wahab Riaz to Khawaja, FOUR, slower ball lands full on off stump, Khawaja stands and caresses this over mid-off, gentle strike but safely played with the man up in the ring.
