Good start for Tallawahs, who will want to build on this. For Kings, they will be keen on getting back to winning ways soon. A quick turn around for them as they take on Barbados Royals at the same venue tomorrow. We will back for the game, but till then, on behalf of Binoy George, this is me Ashish Pant, signing off. Ciao!
Brandon King, the winning captain: [First game as skipper] New challenge for me, the guys helped me as well. A lot of experienced guys, makes my life easier. I have an important role to play at the top. I had to build the partnership and that's all I tried to do. The guys are very experienced, and they helped me make the decisions. The spinners bowled very well . [When Chase and Primus were going big] I wasn't worried, it didn't come down too close. Salman has incredible skills. He was very clear in his mind on what he wanted to bowl.
Faf du Plessis: It felt 10-15 runs too many. King played a great innings. He was just one guy who got stuck in. Their spinners also bowled very well. Their team is set up with those spinners. Imad and Green have been great for them. We thought there might be some bounce. But there was not a lot of bounce. The spinners bowled pretty well. We know at this venue, one of the top boys need to bat deep. If we get going it is difficult to stop. Great to see Chase play really well. We need his runs for us to be successful. [On the dropped catch] I should be catching those even is there is a tornado blowing. The wind is playing a factor. Never easy under the night sky.
Player of the match is Brandon King: I am pretty happy to get the first win. I am just glad that I contributed in the first game of the CPL. It is good to have some consistency. Feeling good at the crease. You tend to make the right kind decisions.
Presentation time
11.02pm Tallawahs get their CPL 2023 off to a winning start with a comfortable win over Kings. It was comfortable for the most part and even cameos from Chase and Primus proved insufficient. A 188-chase was always going to be tough and Kings lost captain Faf du Plessis early. Charles got a couple of lives, but did become the highest run-getter in CPL history going past Lendl Simmons. But he failed to carry on and fell for 24. Sean Williams scored 26 and only Chase, with a 31-ball 53 game them some impetus. Sikandar Raza and Kimani Melius fell off successive balls, and at that stage it seemed to be a simple win for Tallawahs. But Primus whacked 37 off 20 balls, but the run rate went out of hand quite quickly. Imad Wasim with 3 for 27 was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors.
