Gudakesh Motie: "Knowing that there was dew on the outfield and it's a pretty good pitch, I think we could have restricted them to about 15 runs less than their total. After the last game, I had some time to do some work, which included some target bowling. It helped me a lot because my length was really consistent tonight, and I'm pretty happy about that. [Conditions] It was pretty wet, so I had to use a towel to dry the ball as much as possible. [Preparation] I use a wet ball to get myself ready and prepare for a tournament like this because we know there is a lot of dew around."

8:53 pm Brandon King started with attacking intent, striking three consecutive boundaries in the third over against Jediah Blades. However, the Royals' innings then fell into disarray in the middle overs. Quinton de Kock departed cheaply, courtesy of a one-handed stunner from Moeen Ali. The decision to send in Kadeem Alleyne instead of van der Dussen backfired, as Alleyne struggled to score, putting King under pressure. After Alleyne departed, King also followed suit, trying to break free as the dot balls were piling up. The batting order shuffle backfired massively, as Eathan Bosch at number five failed to make an impact, and boundaries dried up thanks to the spin duo of Motie and Tahir. But the innings had a turning point. Rassie van der Dussen and Rovman Powell rebuilt the innings with an 82-run partnership, taking the Royals to a decent total. Van der Dussen scored 45 runs off 37 balls, but Powell stole the show, leading his team from the front with a blistering 9th CPL fifty that included six 6s. He stayed unbeaten until the end. Motie was the pick of the bowlers, bagging two wickets with an excellent economy of 4.

DaWolf: "This is poor captaincy. Blades was smashed in the 17th. Shepherd could have bowled 18 & 20, instead it's Tahir then Shepherd which means only Blades or a spinner can bowl the 20th."

Blades to Powell, SIX, Brings up his fifty with a towering six! 9th CPL fifty for Powell. Banged in short pitched ball again, nailed the swivel pull shot and sends it flying over the fine leg fences. Powell is visibly furious with the umpire, asking why a short-pitched delivery wasn't called a no-ball. He's arguing that the bowler has already bowled too many bouncers in the over.
