Not all doom and gloom for Afghanistan, though. They have a very good batting line-up, albeit a touch untested in this competition. With nothing to lose, there cannot be a better occasion for them to join the party. And if they do, Sreshth Shah will have a fun time calling it. Stay tuned.
10:13pm Highest total for West Indies in men's T20 World Cups and their batters come to the party. Scored heavily in the first five overs and the last five - the most in these phases where ball-by-ball records are available, the middle ten bringing them just 63. This is a good batting track, but it is a formidable score. It was that man Pooran again, putting a big-hitting masterclass against pace and spin. It was helped in part by West Indies getting a superb start with King and Charles getting off the blocks quickly.
Nothing highlights the batters' dominance today more than the fact that Farooqi, the leading wicket-taker of T20 World Cup 2024, did not complete his quota. He was never allowed to settle and as a result, most of Afghanistan's bowling plans came undone.
Siva: "Looking at deep explosive batting order I feel Afghans have done a decent job in keeping WI at 218. Knowing their temperament to challenge, they will definitely go at it hard !!"
Praveen Kumar: "I was looking at the table and fixtures and cricinfo had already decided yesterday that WI is going to win this game because they have placed AFG in the India and AUS group. Oracle eyes!!!" The seedings were pre-decided, which is why there is nothing at stake in this match
Sowmya : "19.4 The only way he could have got out. A piece of brilliance on the field. That too, only a direct hit could have got him"
