10:18pm Sherfane Rutherford. That was what this innings was all about. He walked in when the West Indies were in strife. A few overs later, they were staring down the barrel but Rutherford kept calm. He milked the singles initially, chose his moments to attack and then unleashed at the end, ensuring the West Indies made 58 in their last five. He also stitched together a 37-run last-wicket stand, with every run coming off Rutherford's bat.

New Zealand will feel they missed an opportunity to bundle the two-time champions out for a paltry total. They had them 76-7 at one stage but could not quite capitalise. Williamson's usage of his bowlers also left a bit to be desired and they ended up bowling Mitchell in the 19th and Santner (a left-arm spinner) against Rutherford in the 20th.

Prior to that, the old guard, comprising Boult, Ferguson and Southee were exceptional. Boult was probably the pick of the bunch, scalping three vital wickets, including that of Russell. Neesham did his bit too, with the fifth bowler quota being the only dull spot in what was otherwise an accomplished bowling display.

149, viewed in isolation, may not seem much, but on this track, which has variable bounce and is pretty two-paced, could be a very good total. NZ will also have to dispel the doubts that shrouded their performance the other day and how they do that could be key in this run-chase. Join us in a bit.

Sherfane Rutherford: It was a good innings. Playing a World Cup match is a dream and that is what we live for. Happy to contribute. Very tough surface to bat on. My plan was to bat deep. I was just telling the bowlers that even if we just get singles now, it all adds up. 149 is a brilliant score on this wicket.

Santner to Rutherford, FOUR, four to finish off! Rutherford ends with 68 off 39, and WI finish on 149! Back of a length outside off. Rutherford sits deep in his crease, brings his wrists into play and bludgeons it to deep cover point's left. A sensational shot to cap off a sensational innings!
19.5
6
Santner to Rutherford, SIX, pick the bones out of this one! Santner tries to hide it outside off but Rutherford has read his intentions. Walks across, gets down on one knee and slugs it over wide long on!
19.4
2
Santner to Rutherford, 2 runs, safe! Given a bit of air on a length outside off. Rutherford dances down, trying to go downtown. Slices it but luckily for him, it falls in front of deep cover point. Races back to retain strike

4
Santner to Rutherford, FOUR, that is a stunning shot! Shortish outside off. Rather than trying to drag it, Rutherford holds his shape. Goes through the line and crunches it over extra cover, off the back foot!
19.2
2
Santner to Rutherford, 2 runs, short outside off again. Rutherford cuts it towards deep cover point and is hell-bent on the second. The throw is not great and Rutherford can make it back

Shorter side is to Rutherford's leg side, and he will be hitting with the wind in that direction

Santner to Rutherford, no run, short outside off. Rutherford winds up and powers it straight to long off. Dot to start the over

NZ went into the raffle, and it did not quite pay off. They will now have to bowl spin in the last over. Santner tasked with the responsibility. Can Rutherford get WI up to 140, at least? Around the wicket to Rutherford

Mitchell to Rutherford, 1 run, length on middle and leg. Rutherford pushes it to long on and keeps strike for the start of the next over. Brings up his fifty too, and the crowd is up on its feet!

Surely Rutherford will attempt a single now to retain strike?

6
Mitchell to Rutherford, SIX, or, maybe not! Why run singles when you can hit sixes?! Another half-tracker, this time on leg stump. Rutherford picks it up and dumps it over the fine leg fence!

Rutherford might look for a single

Mitchell to Rutherford, no run, fires in a yorker on the pads. Rutherford cannot work it away and the ball strikes him on the front pad
18.3
6
Mitchell to Rutherford, SIX, back to back sixes - this is even better! Right in the slot on the stumps, and Rutherford is not going to miss out. Snaps his wrists into action and launches it over long off. Almost like a short-arm jab but that carried 86m!
18.2
6
Mitchell to Rutherford, SIX, watch that ball fly! Slower delivery that sits up to be hit outside off. Rutherford reads it like the morning daily, opens up his stance and thumps it over long off!

Mitchell to Rutherford, no run, slower ball on a length outside off. Rutherford reaches out for it and drags it towards deep mid wicket. Single turned down

Motie, for what it is worth, has a First-Class average a shade under 22 and has a First-Class hundred too, alongside two fifties. Mitchell to bowl the 19th

Boult to Motie, no run, back of a length on middle and off. Motie gets behind the line and defends

Motie is the last batter in. Boult stays around the wicket

Boult to Joseph, OUT, cleans him up! Back of a length just outside off. Skids on low and comes back in with the angle. Joseph is late to get his bat down, beaten by the inward movement and the lack of bounce. Kisses the outside of off stump, and the Kiwis are just one wicket away from bowling West Indies out!

Boult to Joseph, no run, hard length on off, angling into the batter. Joseph is cramped for room and hacks it towards extra cover

Boult to Joseph, no run, length outside off and this barely gets up. Joseph has a waft at it and sees the ball squirm underneath his bat

Boult to Joseph, FOUR, gets it away! Slower delivery dug into the track on leg stump. Joseph gets inside the line, rolls his wrists and tickles it past short fine leg. Southee cannot catch up and those are four vital runs!

Boult to Rutherford, 1 run, back of a length just outside off. Sticks in the surface and Rutherford pokes it down to long on

Boult to bowl out too. NZ taking a big gamble here

Ferguson to Joseph, 1 run, full outside off. Joseph comes onto the front foot and punches it towards deep cover point

Joseph in at 10. He can hold his own with the bat

Ferguson to Shepherd, OUT, a Ferguson celebrappeal, and the finger goes up. That looked pretty plumb! Shortish on middle and off. Decks back in off the surface and keeps low too. Shepherd, swiping across the line, misses it by a margin and the ball pins him on the back leg, right in front of middle stump. Shepherd has reviewed it, but it looks more in hope than anticipation. No bat involved and Ball Tracking has it smashing into middle stump, two-thirds of the way up. West Indies are eight down now!
