Sowmya : "An amazing come back from Uganda. At one point it seemed 224-240 was easily possible "

10:11pm An innings of two halves really. In the first half, Afghanistan were rollicking along, with Gurbaz and Ibrahim putting the Ugandan bowlers to the sword. Both of them registered fifties and put together the second-highest opening stand ever in T20 World Cup cricket. Both, though, fell close to each other and that triggered a significant slow-down. Only 27 runs came off the last five overs and they failed to hit a boundary in the last six (scoring 31 and losing five wickets), which means they have ended up well short of what seemed certain at one point.

Lots of credit for the slow-down has to be given to Uganda too. Post the drinks break, they recalibrated their plans, bowling tighter to the stumps and not giving the batters any width. Masaba led that turnaround and was the pick of the bowling bunch, bagging a couple of wickets along the way. Kyewuta also popped up with two scalps, with Ramjani removing Gurbaz.

This may still be a tall order for Uganda, given Afghanistan's bowling might. But they are definitely chasing a much lower total than it seemed at the 14-over mark. Join us in a bit for the run-chase!

Ibrahim Zadran: (On his form in the last few months) I am trying to keep it very simple. I don't try to think a lot. I am working hard, I want to be a great cricketer and want to enjoy my cricket. (On if the six was his favourite shot tonight) I think so, I middled it and I enjoyed that shot a lot. (On partnership with Gurbaz) If you look at our partnership, we have been playing together (for a long time). We have good communication and we know each other's game, and try to keep it simple. Me and Gurbaz were discussing to not go from the first ball. Check what the bowlers are doing and what ends they are bowling from.

Kyewuta to Rashid Khan, 2 runs, short and wide outside off. Rashid reaches out for it and cuts it towards deep cover point. A brace to end the innings

Captain Rashid out to face the last ball. Can he finish with a flourish?

Kyewuta to Azmatullah Omarzai, OUT, goes straight up, and Kyewuta has two! Off-pace on a back of a length outside off. Omarzai tries to hit it into next week and loses all shape. Cuts across it too much and the ball skews off the outside half of the bat. Ramjani gets under it at extra cover and makes no mistake!

Kyewuta to Mohammad Nabi, 1 run, full and wide outside off again. Nabi, sitting deep in his crease, can only smash it straight to extra cover. Just a single

Kyewuta to Mohammad Nabi, no run, appeal, not given! Very full and wide outside off. Nabi gives it all he has and seems to miss it. There was a sound, though, and that got Uganda interested. Was it bat hitting the ground or was it an edge? We go upstairs to find out. Clear gap between bat and ball, and the sound was of the bat hitting the turf. Nabi stays!

Afghanistan have not managed a boundary since the last ball of the 14th over

2
Kyewuta to Mohammad Nabi, 2 runs, off-pace and into the track outside off. Nabi almost swings himself off his feet and the miscue trickles away behind square, allowing him to come back for two

1
Kyewuta to Azmatullah Omarzai, 1 run, length ball on the stumps. Omarzai swings like a rusty gate and shanks it towards deep mid wicket

Last over coming up. 200 a distant dream at the moment. Kyewuta to bowl

1
Masaba to Azmatullah Omarzai, 1 run, almost! Length ball on the stumps. Omarzai pokes it to the bowler's left. Nabi thinks the single is on but his partner sends him back. Masaba, after gathering, decides to run closer to the stumps before throwing it under-arm. Misses the stumps by a whisker and Nabi survives!

Boundaries have been hard to come by for Afghanistan in the recent past

2
Masaba to Mohammad Nabi, 2 runs, low full toss speared into the pads. Nabi tugs it towards deep mid wicket and has enough time to come back for two

Two overs left. Can Afghanistan get to 200? Can Uganda keep them to under 190?

Boris: "Feels like Uganda have pulled it back somewhat" -- They definitely have. 200 seemed nailed-on half an hour ago. Not sure that is the case now, with just two overs left.

Kyewuta to Azmatullah Omarzai, 2 runs, length outside off. Omarzai reaches out for it and drives it on the up past extra cover. Off the mark with a brace

Here's Omarzai. He can strike the ball cleanly too but Uganda are in the midst of a promising spell

Kyewuta to Gulbadin Naib, OUT, holes out to long on! Cross-seam, full and wide outside off again. Naib, rather than going inside out, tries to drag it leg side. Ends up slicing it in the process and only gets height. Masaba settles under it and completes the catch with minimal fuss, well inside the ropes!

Kyewuta to Mohammad Nabi, 1 bye, top yorker just outside off. Nabi cannot jam his bat down in time but it is too hot to handle for the keeper too. A fumble allows a bye

1
Kyewuta to Gulbadin Naib, 1 run, borderline waist-high full toss on off. Naib swings it away towards deep mid wicket. Looks at the umpire for the No ball but gets no favours. That looked touch-and-go

Kyewuta to Gulbadin Naib, no run, length ball hung up wide outside off. Naib has a wild swing at it and misses. Was just inside the tramlines and hence was not called a wide

Masaba to Gulbadin Naib, 2 runs, pushed into the batter on the stumps. Naib uses the angle and uses the vast spaces on the leg side to pick up a brace. Afghanistan's running between the wickets has been excellent throughout this innings

Masaba to Najibullah Zadran, OUT, Najib bites the dust too! A little like those London buses. Uganda waited an eternity for their first wicket, and they now have three!. Seems a bit of a drag-down but the key thing is that there is no real room to work with for Najib. He swings at it anyway but because he cannot free his arms, he picks out Nakrani at deep square leg. Replays confirm it was an off-spinner angled into Najib!
