8:23pm A slightly anti-climactic end to the innings, especially once Ghosh was dismissed in the penultimate over. Prior to that, Ghosh had done her bit, with Deepti ticking along like usual, even if she did not quite muster the finishing kick India would have wanted. That meant India have withered away a bit of their early advantage, which was fashioned by a century-run opening stand between Mandhana and Shafali, with the latter going on to score 87 off 78. Harmanpreet and Rodrigues also got starts but were unable to make it count.
298 is not a small score by any stretch, although SA will be pleased with how they brought things back, given that 320 seemed a certainty for India at one stage. Mlaba was the pick of the bunch, with her dismissal of Harmanpreet a potentially key moment. Tryon also bagged the vital scalp of Mandhana, with Khaka overcoming a tough beginning to relish the challenge at the death. No team has ever scored these many to win a Women's World Cup final, but SA do bat deep, and they do know this is a good chasing ground. Ashish will be back in a bit for the start of the chase!
Nonkululeko Mlaba: (On the surface) It was easier for batters earlier on. But we brought it back nicely. The aim was to bowl stump to stump, did not want to leave the wicket, was trying to not get hit for four each and every ball. For spinners, I bowled really slow and that was working for me. (On the score) It is a good score to chase. It is a high-scoring ground and we are going to do this.
