Another damp squib, but that's how it is. Thanks for tuning in and thanks for all the comments. Until tomorrow, this is me Ashish Pant signing off on behalf of Vishal, Sudeep and Chandan. Ciao!

Sophie Devine: [Feelings] We had a little bit of hope seeing the South Africa game the other day and that they were off the field for five hours and came back. We just needed the rain to hold of, but didn't happen today. It's extremely frustrating, let's be honest. You wait four years for a World Cup and to have suffer through the rain. I hope in future editions, they think of playing earlier in the day. We have seen the rain comes in the evening so play at 10 or 11. For the game, to be scuppered by rain is a real shame for me. [How's the dressing room?] It's pretty flat. We wanted to play today, we were really up and about. But the situation is very clear, we have to win both games, starting with India in Mumbai .We head back to India tomorrow and look forward to the challenges. [Any plans for India game?] No yet, we were so focused on these games, we wanted to give them our full focus. But we have a few days and we will prepare well for India. We will call upon our earlier experiences. They have a lot of tricks. To be playing against the best teams is what the World Cup is all about

Fatima Sana: I think we got a good start but we lost a few wickets. But we had a good chance if we could have reached 180. We had a good belief in our bowling side. Yeah, the pitch was good for bowlers. Our bowlers did well. We have a good belief on our bowling side. Hopefully next game the batters will get a chance to play better. As a bowling unit all our happy. But we need to improve our batting. We have a couple of matches. We will like to play good cricket in the next few matches. [Pitches in Colombo] Everyone told me it was a spinning track, but I got a lot of movement. I just enjoyed the pitch and I have got the wickets. We will try to win the next two matches and try to end our tournament on a high note. [Captaincy] I think it is tough, because we are not winning. But the girls our supporting me, and I am enjoying captaincy.

Here are the two captains.

9.03pm Right, rain has the final say in Colombo and we have confirmation that the match has been abandoned. The points are split, and that result also means that South Africa are the second team to qualify for the semi-final of the ODI World Cup. Two back to back washouts for both New Zealand and Pakistan. New Zealand remain on fifth place. The two captains, Devine and Sana shake hands and that's that. Pakistan managed 92 for 5 in a contest that was affected by rain multiple times.

9pm I don't see this resuming. A handful of Pakistan and New Zealand players are separately taking a stroll around the ground. There is still a steady drizzle, and the ground firmly under the covers. An announcement is imminent.

8.40pm Not much has changed since the previous update. It's still raining. Just an fyi that the cut-off time for a 20-over game in 9.41pm local time. The game might get called off sooner of the rain does not relent.

Jose: "If this match is a washout. End of the world cup for Pakistan?" Nope, they will mathematically still be in contention.

Santhosh Rupert: "I live in Rajagiriya 4km from R Premadasa, and it's pouring cats and dogs here."

8.20pm There's another quick update from Madushka. "Okay now there seems to be some movement and more ground staff are entering the field. Think they're going to start covering the rest of the ground." Yep they are. The entire ground is now getting covered. It's raining pretty heavily.

Ian61: "Quickly guys, tell the DJ to put on Who will stop the rain. It worked yesterday didnt it" Yep.

8.15pm Madushka has a less than ideal update. "Not sure what's happening but it looks like there's some resignation that this game is done. Rain has picked up a fair bit and the covers still are only covering the centre squares. Outfield getting drenched!" This is starting to look grim.

Ranil Herath: "Is NZ going to have a double whammy today, their game in Christchurch abandoned due to rain today." It's increasingly looking that way

Oz Mate: "I'm in Perth, and here rain is forecasted tomorrow as well! "

8.05pm Thanks, Vishal. Definitely hangry and wondering about the scheduling of this tournament. For now, there is a steady drizzle. The entire ground isn't covered, which means it is not pelting down but there is no activity happening. Another longish delay, I am presuming.

Affan: "has the rain stopped?" Nope

7.50pm "Light drizzle, so ground not fully covered," Madushka confirms now. And here's Ashish again; he might be hangry.

7.40pm Annddd it's raining again! Covers are coming back on, if you were wondering at all. But not the entire ground, so it's not pouring the way it was earlier. Just saw there was some lightning as well in Colombo, so it's about safety as well.

"is it confirmed that if this match get washed out SA will reach to semifinal? what if NZ win their both remaining matches, India win against Eng and Ban and Eng win against Australia...than it will come down to run rate between SA, NZ and india...you never know" Well, Niraj, if teams have equal points we will first see the number of wins. If those are also equal, then NRR

Riffat: "Colombo ruined the worldcup literally.."

7.33pm It's down to 36 overs a side now and the inning break has been trimmed down to 10 minutes from 30. The powerplay will be seven overs and the target will be DLS adjusted. One bowler can bowl a maximum of eight overs and four can bowl seven. And we resume play at 7.52pm.

7.15pm We have more from the ground: "Inspection taking place now. And looks to have been a productive chat, as the covers are coming off!"

achettup: "On what basis does SA qualify if this match is washed out? NZ will have 4 points, if they beat India and England they get 8 points. If India beat Bangladesh and England they get 8 points. If England beat Australia they get 9 points. Then if SA lose both matches they are also on 8, and it would come down to NRR." If two or more teams finish on the same points, we count number of wins before their NRR.

"UAE or Bangladesh should have been the option, these rain curtailed games taking excitement away, 5 teams were in contention for the semi now we know who are the semi finalists" So who's getting knocked out, out of England, India and NZ, Mohd Irshad?

Walt: "Madushka's keyboard smoking as he furiously sends updates! "

7.10pm Madushka can't stop typing: Since 25 overs have already been bowled, think we have a bit more leeway for a restart. 9.41pm is the absolute latest cut-off if Pakistan innings is called and NZ bat." And he adds: "Rain looks to have eased again."

7pm Madushka has his eyes peeled: "Drizzle has started up again, just as the umpires were inspecting the ground. Now they're having a chat with the two captains - all smiles at the moment."

6.53pm There goes Ashish for a break and here comes Madushka with an even better update: "Inspection about to take place as umpires chat with head of ground staff. If rain stays away, restart shouldn't be long."

Srini: "Ind vs NZ match is potentially going to decide the SF spot."

6.50pm Some good news from Madushka. "Very light drizzle. Rain pretty much stopped." The covers are in place for now, but that might soon change

Himanshu: "Hopefully, a 20-over game is in sight. Fingers crossed! "

6.40pm It is raining pretty steadily as things stand, and the entire ground is covered. There is rain on the radar for at least the next hour. As we wait for the weather to clear up, Sampath has a few numbers for us. New Zealand's target will be 109 if the match is reduced to 25 overs and 94 if it is reduced to 20 overs. South Africa will qualify for the semis if this match is a washout.

Cricket Superfa: "@Motown I agree, given the way the Colombo weather has played almost throughout this tournament. "

PM01: "Hats off to the ground staff , I hope they can get a game here today! they have worked very hard !"

6.25pm The entire ground is being covered now as the rain is coming down a little harder now, informs Madushka. This seems like another longish delay Sigh!

Motown: "It's just impossible for the team batting first in these conditions to know how to play it. Your innings might be 20 overs, it might be 50. Do you try to accelerate when the rain threatens, knowing it might be your last few overs, or preserve wickets and hope you can come back yet. Just not a fair contest."

6.17pm The rain has intensified and the covers are coming on. The players rush off the ground. That means, we are going to lose a few more overs. This is already the fifth match that is being affected by rain in Colombo. New Zealand will be aggrieved by the rain. The spin duo of Kerr and Carson had the batters in a web..

Matthew: "NZ's fielding a very mixed bag in the tournament so far. Some hard catches made to look easy, but also a number of slips that have given away free runs."
