Today's game showed that time is relative, the pitch at Dunedin was good, the rain was and might continue to be a threat, and that Bangladesh are willing to take big strides to improve their game. Their running, ground fielding, and Shamima's swat pulls were top-notch. Fargana Hoque made her first World Cup fifty. For New Zealand, the spinners' performances will be a major positive. Sophie Devine, New Zealand Captain: It was a quick turnaround, so we had to put the loss behind quickly. We are extremely grateful to the ground staff for creating the game which seemed unlikely at times. Thanks to the Bangladesh team for playing and the umpires for getting a move on. Amelia and Amy used their experience and slowed things down well. I'm lucky to have her services at my disposal. The wicket was great despite the slow outfield, so I'm disappointed not to have cashed in but Suzie was excellent for us. It was a typical Dunedin surface. We've got a game against India, whom we have a bit of history with in the series last month, coming up. We know their games and will hopefully do well against them, it should be a cracker.

Nigar Sultana, Bangladesh Captain: Our openers did really well, Fargana's first World Cup fifty was brilliant and the lower order did its bit. We have to work on our partnerships, that could have gotten us to a better score here. We have never played in conditions, it was hard to grip the ball and see properly, so there is lots of learn. The batting performance today, after the South Africa game, reflected out learning and was a positive. The spirit and the fightback were good.

Susie Bates is the Player of the Match 79(68): It was a strange day, saw the rain from the hotel and was disappointed. It was good to start after the wait. Thanks to Bangladesh who came out and played. I know the ground very well and knew this was a true wicket and could hit through the line. I want to contribute as much as I can, we have a few massive games coming. My job is just to absorb the pressure at the top. I was trying to lay a good platform and it's nice to get a win after the loss against the West Indies. The cheers from some of the girls from the ODI championship on the ground were lovely. It was nice to be unbeaten and acknowledge them.

6:47 pm: From Sampath: Suzie Bates is the fastest to 1000 runs in Women's World Cup - 21 innings. Previous fastest was Belinda Clark in 22 innings. The batters look happy and Bangladesh were commendable in the field. The wet ball affected their efforts but not getting wickets up top was the bigger issue. They bowled well but the New Zealand pros had answers to the questions. Susie Bates acknowledges her fans in the stands who were flashing her poster. Lovely pictures.
