6pm: One-day cricket, bloody hell! We knew the game was accelerating but, even more mind-bendingly, it's England who are leading the charge... First Alex Hales broke Robin Smith's 23-year-old record for the highest ODI score by an Englishman; Jos Buttler's 22-ball fifty set another national mark; England passed 400 for the second time in their history; and then they sallied forth a bit more to finish on the highest team total ever recorded in the format. I think it was Cardus who called Trent Bridge a "lotus land for batsmen" - but he probably didn't quite mean this. Can Pakistan match England's efforts salvage some pride? It's wiser to concentrate on counting fours and sixes than chickens these days but, on recent form, a target of 445 is surely well beyond them... Anyway, it's time for me to sit still in a quiet corner for 20 minutes and try to regain a sense of equilibrium. Join us again for another ride on the Big Dipper shortly...
"England spoiled it. 444/4 would have been so much better!" You're a man after Miller's heart, Krishna
"I'm not impressed at all," parps David. "It's not even the highest innings score on this ground - this year."
Props to Mal for this, though: "Quadruple Nelson, England are in trouble now!"
"And after 10 years, Sri Lanka's 443 looks ready to be broken," chirps Qaaid, fully up to speed
Hasan Ali will bowl the final over, England have 443 firmly in their sights
