Should Pant have bowled Bishnoi? Can CSK turn their season around? Tune in to Time Out to listen to Bishop, Jaffer and Abhinav Mukund analyse this game.
Rishabh Pant: "We feel we were 10-15 runs short, we kept losing wickets, whenever momentum was there we kept losing wickets and we couldn't get a partnership. the wicket was nice to bat on, stopping a bit, we could have got ten runs more. Definitely feeling better about my batting with every game ... getting into rhythm. There was lot of time I thought about bowling Bishnoi but I discussed with other players and thought let's take it deeper ..."
Dube: "This means a lot, losing five in a row, that's not CSK, for me today was very important, from my side I thought I could bat until the end, wanted to finish the game and I did that. We started losing wickets, Jadeja and Vijay got out, so I wanted to take the game deep, that was my plan. I think when MS came and started smashing the bowlers, made my job easier, I tried not to lose my wicket ... plan was simple not to hit the ball too hard."
So CSK stay at the bottom of the points table but are now level on four points with the three teams above them. LSG had the chance to go to the top of the class, but remain fourth instead.
We'll hear from MS Dhoni shortly at the presentation ... he's also the player of the match for that innings. first time he's getting the award in the IPL since 2019.
MS Dhoni: "Good to win a game, unfortunately the games haven't gone our way, it gives a lot of confidence to the team. It was a tough game, glad to be on the winning side and hopefully it gives us momentum. We were struggling in the first six overs in previous games when bowling but then come back in the middle overs ... we were not getting the kind of the start also as a batting unit ...maybe it was because of the Chennai wicket ... maybe we will do better on better wickets, give the batters more confidence. We need more bowlers in the first six, we were puting too much pressure on Ash to bowl two overs in the first six, so we mad changes to have more bowlers in the first six, this looks like a better attack ... we have done well as a bowling unit, but we can do better as a batting unit. Rasheed batting really well today, he has been with us for few years, we have seen improvement and this year he has been batting really well in the nets, we needed a change in the batting order, he batted really well, but it's just the start, he has ability to dominate with authentic shots ... not like some other batters floating around.
"Even today I'm wondering why I'm getting the award, Noor bowled so well ..."
Right, time for my fingers to get a rest. It's been memorable, and thank you for all your feedback. It keeps it lively. See you all tomorrow for PBKS-KKR. Good night!
Start those whistles folks, five defeats in a row but there likely won't be a sixth tonight.
Jay: "LSG got their plans wrong here. I cannot understand why Shardul has gotten two death overs over Bishnoi. Your star spinner, 2-18 in 3 overs, with Dhoni at one end who's struggled against spin. You have to back him even if it is Dube at one end. "
John: "Why did they go back to pace? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?????"
Shreyas Iyer remains fourth among batters after his second-ball duck; Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana now joint-fourth among bowlers
Pant showed signs of a return to form against Chennai Super Kings but also played out a lot of dot balls
There's no change at the top of the two tables, but the action is getting frenetic just below them
This CSK was unlike the usual CSK, but they did enough things right, and smart, to spark hope among their fans
LSG posted their lowest score of IPL 2025
