Sai Sudharsan, Prasidh Krishna consign MI to big defeat
There was some concern for Titans as Sai Sudharsan left the field clutching his left hamstring after a diving effort, but Shubman Gill later said that it was a cramp

11:59pm That will be a wrap from us for tonight. GT get two points, which means the Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals are the only sides yet to open their account this season. We hope you enjoyed our coverage and would love your company tomorrow as well, with a double-header lined up. Until then, this is goodbye from Ranjith, Venkat Raghav and myself. Take care, folks!
Prasidh Krishna, Player of the Match: (On how he is feeling winning his first POTM award in the IPL) Nothing much, don't really have any words right now. It was the tenth over, I was thinking I had not waited so long to bowl (in a T20 game) but it paid off (in the end). We were sitting and watching how the first innings went. Cutters into the wicket were doing well and the plan was to make sure I use those lengths. I just figured that was working, so did not want to test the speed gun (smiles). Wanted to keep things simple, every single ball was important.
Shubman Gill, Gujarat Titans captain: (On the decision to play on this pitch and when it was taken) The decision was taken before we played the first match that we would be playing this match on black soil. (On if that decision was based on the opposition) That was a factor as well, this kind of wicket suits our batting and bowling more (than the red soil). Batting on black soil, it is difficult to hit boundaries when the ball gets old, so wanted to hit boundaries (during the powerplay). We can all talk about the plans, certain things go your way, sometimes they don't. (On Rashid not bowling out) I don't know, maybe this could be the first time (he only bowled two overs in a T20 game). I actually kept his overs to bowl in the end, but the way the pacers were bowlingâŠdid not want to get the game loosened up. Prasidh was bowling beautifully and thought why not to bowl him out. (On their next games being in Bengaluru and Hyderabad) We have seen the par score on those wickets are quite different from what we have played on (here), but that will be a good challenge.
Hardik Pandya, Mumbai Indians captain: Tough to put (down where it went wrong). There were errors, we were not quite professional in the field - that cost us maybe 20-25 runs. They (the GT openers) did the right stuff in the powerplay, they did not play high-risk shots, they got enough runs (playing that way) and that put us on the back foot. Early stage, but at the same time, batters have to come to the party and hopefully they do that soon. I was just thinking I bowled way too many balls, they saw it was gripping and those were the toughest balls to score off. When you have this much variable bounce, it becomes difficult as a batter. They did the same to me (what I did as a bowler).
R Sai Kishore: (On his stare-down with Pandya) He is a very good friend of mine, inside the field, it should be like that. Anyone is an opponent but we do not take anything personally. I felt I was not getting as much purchase. Had to play for the team, had to bowl defensively, mixed it up a little bit. Felt it played better than what it looked. He (Suryakumar) played really well, he swept all my good length balls. When someone plays a good shot, you have to give credit to him. I did some things instinctively, Gill also told me (what to expect from Surya), having played with him (for India). I am actually looking forward to this season, have learnt very much, worked really hard.
11:35pm A real canter in the end, with the only thing that was to be decided in the final few overs being the margin of defeat for MI. At the half-way stage, Boult was confident and said they were happy chasing 200. But given how they batted, they might have even struggled to chase 180. Apart from Suryakumar, none of the batters got into any sort of rhythm, with Pandya's painstaking 11-ball 17 summing up how their evening went.
While MI were lackadaisical at times, take nothing away from the Titans and their bowling effort. They stuck to their plans, executed what they had in mind and used the conditions to the tee, with Prasidh the standout. In fact, GT were so impressive that Rashid only had to bowl two overs, and that will give them plenty of belief moving forward, especially with Rabad and Siraj also among the wickets, and Sai Kishore continuing to do whatever is asked of him.
46 needed off the last over. Six legal balls, and GT will be home. Siraj to bowl
