That's all from one last time from IPL 2024 in Jaipur. Royals keep their fortress intact. The action keeps coming thick and fast, so do join us tomorrow as CSK and LSG clash again, this time at Chepauk. On behalf of Venkat and Thilak, our scorers, and Vishal, this is Sudarshanan signing off. Ciao!
12am Time for the presentations
Sanju Samson, Royals captain: "The credit has to go to all the players. We started well in the powerplay and then the left-handers played Chahal and Ashwin well. But the way Sandeep and Avesh came back, that's why we won the game. The wicket was dry but when the lights came on, the wicket gets better to bat. The way Jos and Yashasvi batted, we knew we had to reset and go again. People are professionals, we backed them to do well. Jaiswal is full of confidence, we knew it was a matter of one game. He was calm, composed, very happy for him."
Sandeep Sharma, Player of the Match for his 5 for 18: "Got fit day before yesterday. So first game after fitness. Actually pitch was on the slower and lower side, my plan was to bowl the cutters and it came off. If you are bowling at the end, you have to have a big heart. In this IPL bowlers are under the pump. You have to have a big heart and keep executing your variations. Two years back I went unsold and came as a replacement, so every game I am taking as a bonus."
11:45pm Jaiswal is the man of the moment. What a return to runs this has been. Gets a warm hug from his India captain Rohit Sharma. And walks back chatting with him. This has been a knock of statement, he becomes only the second batter to hit two centuries against MI in the IPL. Last year against an attack that had Jofra Archer at Wankhede, he made merry. Tonight, he has been class personified against the likes of Bumrah and Coetzee. With Jaiswal in the middle, Royals hardly seem to break a sweat. A nine-wicket win against the five-time IPL champs chasing 180 is a bold statement.
Hardik Pandya, Mumbai captain: "We put ourselves in trouble early on. But the way Tilak and Nehal wanted was fantastic. We didn't finish well and that's why we were 10-15 runs short. We had to keep it within the stumps, we gave a lot of width early in the powerplay. It was not our best day on the field. We did not put our best feet on the park. Everyone knows their roles, we need to rectify our mistakes and not repeat it. Individually we need to accept our flaws and work on those. I don't believe much in chip and chop, I like to back players. The focus will be on good cricket, sticking to our plans."
Yashasvi Jaiswal: "I really enjoyed from the start and was trying to make sure that I was watching the ball and playing my cricketing shots. I am trying to keep doing what I do. I didn't have anything in my mind. I really want to thank all my seniors with the way they have guided me. Specially would like to thank Sanga sir and Sanju bhai and giving me opportunities. Trying my best in practice and on the ground."
Here's Sampath Bandarupalli: Teams with a Century and a Five-wicket haul in the same IPL match:
Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal for RR vs KKR, Brabourne 2022 Shubman Gill and Mohit Sharma for GT vs MI, Ahmedabad 2023 Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sandeep Sharma for RR vs MI, Jaipur 2024
Tilak Varma into the attack now. Looks like a slight drizzle is back
Sandeep Sharma knows what he can do and what he can't do, and is making sure to play to his strengths, evolving all the time
"He just needed a little bit of time to bat out of that powerplay, which he did," says Wasim Jaffer after Jaiswal's 60-ball 104*
