9:08pm An innings that only got injected with impetus in patches. One of those was when Pooran took down Chahal, and then towards the end, when Samad found the fence multiple times. Prior to that and after that, though, LSG were contained brilliantly by the Punjab Kings and at this stage, it seems the hosts have a total that is slightly below par on this surface.

Coming back to PBKS, Arshdeep got the ball rolling by removing Marsh in the first over. Ferguson then accounted for Markram, with Maxwell sending back Pant. The big moment of their bowling innings, though, arrived when Pooran chanced his arm once too often against Chahal, and that, in hindsight, has made a difference of 15-20 runs (at least). Which also means PBKS will be the happier side heading into this break, and will be confident of chasing this down. Join us in a bit for the second innings!

Arshdeep Singh: (On his performance) I feel it was pretty average. I feel I could have bowled better and given less runs. In the powerplay, it was stopping a bit and there was extra bounce. If we could have hit our lengths a few more times, it could have been different. Nowadays, batters do not trust their defence much, they just want to go after the ball. I had two slips and a deep cover, just in case it swings. It is a good total, we have to bat well (to chase it). The wicket got better (towards the end), but I feel like you have to stay till the last over and it can be a good chase.

Arshdeep Singh to Thakur, 2 runs, just short, and Thakur smuggles a second as LSG finish on 171! Full and wide. Thakur gets under it and chips it towards deep point. Ferguson cannot get to it and then misfields slightly to allow Thakur to scamper back for the second

Long on, deep mid wicket, long off, deep point and deep third (albeit very square) on the fence

Arshdeep Singh to Thakur, no run, zipped into the blockhole on middle and off. Thakur jams it out towards mid on. Dot ball!

Arshdeep Singh to Avesh Khan, 2 wides, back of a length wide outside off. Avesh swings like a rusty gate and to no one's surprise, misses. Thakur, though, is alert enough to sneak in another run. But hang on, the Kings have reviewed this. Could be touch-and-go. Seems to be just beyond the revised guidelines (due to Avesh's back foot being just outside off) and the wide call stays!

Avesh on strike

Arshdeep Singh to Abdul Samad, OUT, soft, soft dismissal and LSG are losing their way in the final over! Hung up full and wide outside off. Samad has no option but to swish at it but only manages a tame outside edge due to the angle. Simple catch for Arya at short third, and that will be that for Samad with the bat tonight!

Arshdeep Singh to Thakur, 1 run, back of a length outside off. Thakur waits for it and dabs it towards deep point to get Samad back on strike

Arshdeep Singh to Badoni, OUT, miscued and taken by Maxwell! Badoni's rear-guard effort comes to an end! Off-pace on a back of a length outside off. Badoni shapes up to hack it over cow corner but the lack of pace, plus the fact that he is fighting the angle, means that he chalks it off the toe-end. Maxwell runs around to his left from deep mid wicket and does the rest! A good innings, but he cannot quite see LSG through to 175-180!

1w
Arshdeep Singh to Badoni, 1 wide, Arshdeep tests out the middle of the track outside off and it responds much more than he expects. Balloons over the batter's head and some more exercise for the umpire

Deep mid wicket, deep square leg, deep cover, long off and fine leg on the fence for Badoni

1
Arshdeep Singh to Abdul Samad, 1 run, low full toss wide outside off. Samad shuffles across, fetches it and sweeps it towards deep mid wicket. Excellent bowling, given the field he has

Right. Last over coming up. Can LSG get up to 180? That could be a competitive score. Arshdeep, despite being expensive in the 18th, will bowl the 20th, which means Ferguson will not bowl out

Jansen to Badoni, 1 run, slot ball outside off. Badoni sits deep in his crease and drags it towards deep mid wicket
18.2
1w
Jansen to Badoni, 1 wide, dug in much shorter and this flies through. Well over Badoni's swing and well over his head too and the keeper does well to rein it in

vishwajit: "what's the purpose of bringing Wadhera as impact player now ??" -- Punjab might think he is a better fielder than Chahal

Jansen to Abdul Samad, 1 run, dug into the track on middle and leg. Gets big on Samad as he looks to pull and he splices it towards deep mid wicket

Arshdeep Singh to Abdul Samad, 1 run, into the blockhole on off. Samad has to abandon his attempted lap mid-way and chalks it towards extra cover

4
Arshdeep Singh to Abdul Samad, FOUR, Samad is toying with the field and the bowling now! Arshdeep more or less nails the wide yorker but still gets hit to the fence. Talk about placement. Samad opened up his bat face late and guided it between deep point and deep third!
17.4
4
Arshdeep Singh to Abdul Samad, FOUR, oh wow, don't know how to describe that shot! Low full toss hung up wide outside off. Samad reaches out for it while being in position for the scoop and somehow gets it over the keeper's head. Between the keeper and short fine leg to be precise, and that was some shot!
17.3
6
Arshdeep Singh to Abdul Samad, SIX, kaboom! Samad with his second maximum of the evening! Marginally short outside off. Samad goes back and across, stands up on his toes and whacks it out of sight over long on!

1
Arshdeep Singh to Badoni, 1 run, slower ball on a length outside off. Badoni gets on top of the bounce and drives it towards sweeper cover

4
Arshdeep Singh to Badoni, FOUR, splits the gap! Short outside off and Badoni pounces. Gets his hands through the ball swiftly and threads it between backward point and short third!

Substitution alert! PBKS bring in Wadhera as their Impact Player, replacing Chahal. Arshdeep to bowl the 18th. He will likely bowl the 20th as well

lunch: "Excited for Badoni to launch from this platform, he's been measured so far with wickets falling but we know from last year he has the talent to go big! Fingers crossed!"
