5:11pm A real stop-start innings. RR did not lose a wicket in the powerplay but they could not capitalise on that as the middle overs dawned. Both Buttler and Jaiswal scratched around before being dismissed. Samson was not at his fluent best either. Jurel and Parag were the only batters to find some sort of timing, with Parag's 35-ball 47 a major reason why RR went past 140.

CSK, meanwhile, did what they usually do at Chepauk - squeeze the life out of the opposition through the middle overs. Jadeja was economical, as was Theekshana. Simarjeet, though, was the pick of the bunch. He rarely offered width and his stock ball, which was on a hard length, was difficult to get away. Shardul and Deshpadne then closed out the innings well towards the end, and CSK will be fairly happy with where they are placed at the half-way stage.

That said, they will be aware of the bowling quality RR possess. The Royals, it could be argued, have the perfect attack to exploit these conditions, and could have up to 12 overs of spin, if Maharaj is brought in. This game, thus, is far from done, and the second innings promises to be intriguing. Join us in about ten minutes.

Simarjeet Singh: (On the heat) It was a little difficult but we know about these conditions. We know how difficult it is but we had to put in that effort today. The ball was holding and sticking a little. I tried to bowl in my half and not in the batter's half. I don't know what the other team's plan is but I hope we bat well. (On the score) Good total, but if you bat well, it should be easy.

1
Deshpande to Parag, 1 run, length ball slanted across the batter way outside off. Parag throws himself at it and shanks it off the inside edge. Rolls away to the bowler's right and Deshpande keeps it to one
19.5
6
Deshpande to Parag, SIX, what a shot that is! Simply stunning! Short, wide and sitting up to be hit. Parag still has plenty to do. He stands up tall and almost forehands it over long off. Novak Djokovic, eat your heart out!
19.4
2
Deshpande to Parag, 2 runs, very full outside off. Parag hangs deep in his crease and powers it on the bounce towards long on. Gaikwad accounts for the spin on the second bounce and reins it in
19.3
1
Deshpande to Ashwin, 1 run, shortish outside off. No real pace on that and Ashwin can only slice it towards deep backward point

Ashwin strides out. Deshpande on a hat-trick

19.2
W
Deshpande to Dubey, OUT, two in two for Tushar Deshpande! 117.1kph cutter dug into the track outside off. Dubey is way too early into the stroke. In fact, he plays two or three shots in his head before eventually dangling his bat out. Loops up to backward point, and Dube sends Dubey packing!

SB Dubey c Dube b Deshpande 0 (1m 1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Dubey in for the last five balls of the innings

19.1
W
Deshpande to Jurel, OUT, Jurel miscues, and Shardul snares it! Fullish outside off. Jurel, sitting back in his crease, tries to fight the angle and go leg-side but does so in vain. Slices across it too much and the ball spoons up towards extra cover. Shardul does not take it very cleanly, but that will do for now for CSK!

DC Jurel c Thakur b Deshpande 28 (24m 18b 1x4 2x6) SR: 155.55

Six balls left. Deshpande to bowl. How many can RR get? CSK will be chuffed if they can keep RR down to under 140. Deshpande stays around the wicket

1
Thakur to Jurel, 1 run, hard length outside off. Skids on, because of the two-paced nature of the surface, and Jurel splices it towards long on
18.5
1
Thakur to Parag, 1 run, in the slot outside off. Parag clears his front leg and heaves it towards long on. Rizvi cuts it off nicely and the release is quick enough to prevent the second
18.4
1
Thakur to Jurel, 1 run, off-pace on a shortish length outside off. Jurel waits in his crease and cuts it towards deep point
18.3
1
Thakur to Parag, 1 run, low full toss outside off. Parag has a slog at it and drags it towards deep backward square leg
18.2
2
Thakur to Parag, 2 runs, dropped! Another slower bouncer outside off. Gets up very high and Parag cannot get on top of it. Miscues his pull straight up and Rizvi, running in from long on, shells it. He did well to get there, and will be disappointed to have not held on
18.1
1
Thakur to Jurel, 1 run, angled into the stumps. Jurel looks to force it away but cannot do so the way he wants. Chunks it off the inside edge towards short fine leg

11 runs off the last over, and will that kick RR into gear? Two overs left. RR will want to get close to 150

Deshpande to Jurel, 1 run, nails the wide yorker this time. Jurel squeezes it out towards deep cover point
17.3
6
Deshpande to Jurel, SIX, into the stands! Juicy full toss outside off and that is a proper freebie. Jurel cannot believe what has been dished out and pounds it over cow corner!
17.2
1
Deshpande to Parag, 1 run, another low full toss outside off. Parag has a mighty swing at it but shanks it towards deep mid wicket

Backward square leg, extra cover, backward point and a very fine short third in place

17.1
1
Deshpande to Jurel, 1 run, low full toss just outside off. Jurel cannot get under it and clinks it down the ground to long on

Deshpande is back. He will likely bowl the 18th and the 20th. Around the wicket

Simarjeet Singh to Parag, 1 wide, slower delivery dug into the track outside off. Goes over Parag's head and the square leg umpire, after a bit of thought, signals for the wide. Well above the head, in fact

16.4

Simarjeet Singh to Parag, no run, back to the off-pace ball. On a length just outside off. Parag tries to smash it into the sea and gets it as far as the front pad
16.3

Simarjeet Singh to Parag, FOUR, just past Jadeja! Dug in short outside off. Parag, though, has telegraphed this. Waits on the back foot and belts it towards deep mid wicket. Jadeja flies to his right but cannot quite get there
16.2
1
Simarjeet Singh to Jurel, 1 run, slower ball on a length outside off. Jurel comes forward and eases it out to deep cover point
