END OF OVER:
20 | 25 Runs | RR: 185/5 | RR: 9.25

  • Shimron Hetmyer14 (7b)
  • Anrich Nortje4-0-48-1
  • Mukesh Kumar4-0-49-1

Sudarshanan will be in for the chase. Let me see if I can get a couple comments in

Sampath's stat: Before this IPL, Riyan Parag was one of the two batters with 1000-plus T20 runs at No.4 with a strike rate of 150-plus and 40-plus average. Suryakumar Yadav being the other. However, Parag batted only twice at that No.4 position in his 54-match IPL career till 2023.

Sai: "RR were literally 58/3 in 10 overs, so this is a remarkable recovery ft. Ash, Parag and Hettie!!!"

Anshul: "Parag has finally started to live up to the hype around him"

Riyan Parag: [Last over] It's a result of a lot of practice behind the scenes. It's not the bowler but the ball he's bowling and I practised against a lot of those balls and could execute the shots tonight. I have my options ready both sides of the wicket, that's what I've been working on lately. I back myself, I know I have the power to dig out yorkers and hit sixes off short balls. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. [Being 26 at run a ball] Sanga and Sanju bhaiyya came in and told me to do it deep, knew I'd go big at the end if I did. For someone coming in, it's not easy but not as much for someone set. It's been tough, I am a bit emotional right now. But it's been a lot of work. Backed myself, practiced a lot, seeing the fruits of it now.

9:24pm 58 off Parag's last 19 balls, says Simon Katich. It was ridiculous hitting. Whether the bowling was on point or not, it was sensational. You don't just hit both sides of the wicket with that good a connection repeatedly. There were things that happened before but who cares? I mean, if living in the moment was this fun, self-help people wouldn't have had to use it so much. Anyway, it's a great score. Parag started well, carried the innings together. Ashwin played a handy cameo. Capitals' new-ball bowlers were great. Axar tried holding them down. Kuldeep was good but was taken down. I'm just typing words on autopilot.

Nortje to Parag, 1 run, A bit anticlimactic but the final over goes for two million anyway. Yorker on leg, 144ks, helped along to deep fine leg.
19.5
6
Nortje to Parag, SIX, Parag's in boundayville! Dude, how do you pull a 144ks bouncer like that?! It's angling in too. Does it with ridiculous ease and clears deep midwicket by a mile

Noman: "I don't understand field placing. If you're planning on wide yorker outside off, then why short third!"

19.4
4
Nortje to Parag, FOUR, Wide yorker goes against Nortje again! Parag tries to slam it over cover again, gets another thick edge. This is not as in-between the two fielders but short third has no chance of taking it to the left
19.3
6
Nortje to Parag, SIX, Slotsville and Parag's doing it and is aware too! Points to his partner and is all smiles. This was 143ks outside off, he was really stable on impact, had a diagonal stance, and lumped it over long-off
19.2
4
Nortje to Parag, FOUR, Parag had a stable base, was on the back foot and pulled it high and mighty over midwicket
19.1
4
Nortje to Parag, FOUR, Unlucky for Nortje, Parag gets four between keeper and short third. Yorker around fourth, he tried to slap it through cover and got an edge

END OF OVER:

  • Shimron Hetmyer14 (7b)
  • Riyan Parag59 (39b)
  • Mukesh Kumar4-0-49-1
  • Anrich Nortje3-0-23-1

2
Mukesh Kumar to Hetmyer, 2 runs, Similar ball, Hetmyer goes deeper in the crease, has all the weight on the back foot while slashing. Not the perfect connection but gets the ball to drop in the backward-point outfield. Checking for a short run. He's just about managed to slide the bat in the crease
18.5

Mukesh Kumar to Hetmyer, no run, Caught-behind appeal. Pant's confident. Review taken. 136ks. Replay's taking a bit of time and Hetmyer practises a few reverse sweeps. Ball was very full, just inside the tramline Hetmyer tried to adjust and slash it square. No edge, review lost.
18.4
4
Mukesh Kumar to Hetmyer, FOUR, Starts walking and gets a low wide fully. Wouldn't have been far from a yorker had he stayed still, but he was able to get to a position from which he could slice it through cover
18.3
6
Mukesh Kumar to Hetmyer, SIX, Mukesh misses the yorker this time, Hetmyer slog sweeps it and has an end-to-end grin. 136ks knee-roll height full toss, he lunged and bashed it. He points to the dugout and is chuffed. Fielder has to wait a bit for the fans to return the ball

Siddhant: "To people who say 150 is par, it seems that way because of how difficult it was initially due to the dryness of the surface. Like Samson said at the toss, it will only get better to bat on with dew. 170ish i say"

18.2
1
Mukesh Kumar to Parag, 1 run, Another yorker nailed. From wide of the crease, on middle, jammed to deep midwicket
18.1
1
Mukesh Kumar to Hetmyer, 1 run, Lands the yorker perfectly. Hetmyer has that diagonal stance going, front foot towards mid-on and back foot towards first slip, but can't get underneath it. Almost nutmegs it, gets it off the bottom of the bat to the leg side
18.1
1w
Mukesh Kumar to Hetmyer, 1 wide, Wide and full, angle takes it too far.. Let go

END OF OVER:

  • Shimron Hetmyer1 (2b)
  • Riyan Parag58 (38b)
  • Anrich Nortje3-0-23-1

Kumar: "If RR lose a wicket now. Do they bring in Nandre Burger who can hit a bit or Powell?" Probably Burger because he can bowl too

17.6

Nortje to Hetmyer, 1 bye, Bumper beats the lunge-hook, 138ks, not given wide. Hetmyer reviews. Was fast, angling in and Hetmyer crouched and the ball was in line with his front leg when it went past him. So the on-field call stands
17.5
1
Nortje to Parag, 1 run, Nortje bowls wide on a back of length, Parag slashes off the upper-half of the bat. Goes to deep cover on the bounce

Shrikant : "Successful promotion of Ashwin means that RR does not require a premature batsman sub. "

17.4

Nortje to Parag, no run, Low fully on seventh from wide of the crease, tries crashing it late but gets no bat on it. There's a sweeper cover and wide third out. So he's bowling to the field
17.3
1
Nortje to Hetmyer, 1 run, Yorker angling in to middle, clipped to to midwicket

Good entry point I'd say for Hetmyer but it's a chancy time to come in. Around goes Nortje

17.2
W
Nortje to Jurel, OUT, Paddled onto off stump, that's a rare visual. Jurel picked the fast, full ball from outside the offside tramline, seemed to have middled it but unintentionally sent the bails on a sexy-looking flight. Second of those on the night after Jaiswal's dismissal. Nortje is pumped

DC Jurel b Nortje 20 (19m 12b 3x4 0x6) SR: 166.66

17.1
4
Nortje to Jurel, FOUR, Premeditated shuffle across, Nortje sees him and tries following him with a short cutter.

Nortje will probably bowl the last two

  • Dhruv Jurel16 (10b)

  • Mukesh Kumar3-0-34-1

DrZee: "Last 3 over 15,15,15. love the symmetry followed by Parag and Dhruv"

16.6
6
Kuldeep Yadav to Parag, SIX, Pummelled over midwicket. 90ks, googly, not that short. Parag was in the crease, on the back foot, had the stablest of bases and whacked it with an upper-body swivel
16.5
1
Kuldeep Yadav to Jurel, 1 run, Long hop but very fast. 115ks. Jurel went across, got too far inside the line but managed to pull it to deep square leg

Ashu: "150 is a par score on this pitch. Lock my words."

16.4
2
Kuldeep Yadav to Jurel, 2 runs, Pulls the length ball from outside off that was racing past Warner's right but he charged across and stopped it with his extended right hand
16.3
4
Kuldeep Yadav to Jurel, FOUR, Bottom edge goes below keeper, who tries following it. The length ball was very wide to start with, Jurel reached out and tried slapping it nonetheless.

16.1
