"The ball was holding in the surface a bit," Varma says. "I always back my shots, and I was doing the same thing here. I was asking my partners what could be a good total here and going accordingly. I would say spinners were bowling well as it was holding a bit. When we tried to step out, they bowled a bit quick. Siraj had backward point and extra cover a bit finer, so he was going for wide yorkers."

9.29pm What an innings by Tilak Varma. He came in with his side 20 for 3. It became 98 for 5 at one stage but Varma kept going for his shots and smashed an unbeaten 84 off just 46. The last two over produced 38 as MI finished on 171 for 7. It still might be a bit under par but Varma has given them a chance.
