And, friends, that is all from us at ESPNcricinfo. Another total defended, another good win for the Super Giants. Trends emerging from every team now. Just makes this competition so expensive. See you tomorrow for Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bangalore. Ta-da!
Avesh Khan is the Player of the Match. He says, "Effort was to give wickets to team because that's what the team wants from me. I wanted to give wicket in powerplay phase and slog-overs phase. (Williamson wicket) I had thought I'll bowl slow. I noticed that slower balls were working well in the first innings, so I thought I'd do that as a variation in the powerplay. (Hat-trick ball) I wanted to bowl a dot ball so thought I'll go for the yorker option. (New franchise adjustment) The set up is great with Gambhir, Bichel and Flower here. They tell me to bowl to my strengths."
Winning captain KL Rahul: "What's pleasing is that we've found a way to stay in the game and give ourselves a good chance of winning. We did that again today. Not ideal to lose three wickets early, but we need to give ourselves a little time since we bat deep and we have power at the death. That's something we need to learn as a batting group - how to do play risk-free cricket while looking for fours. But with the ball we've been brilliant in all three games. We don't chat so much in the middle. As opening batsmen, you give yourselves a couple of balls and if the wicket is good then both openers have to go. We have that extra batter with Jason coming in, so the plan is to put pressure on the opposition. That's the body language we want to carry. To go out there and hit boundaries and sixes, but choose smart shots. If we lost wickets early, we need to quickly assess the situation and see what the target should be. Quinton and Lewis wanted to put pressure on Washington, but it didn't come off. I've been playing with Hooda for last 3-4 seasons, he doesn't come out of the nets. Don't really need to do so much nets when you're batting so well, but he never comes out of the nets. He had to wait for his chance, he's using that, and now is becoming someone you can rely on, in the middle order."
Kamal: "So much young Indian leadership in this IPL: Samson, Rahul, Shreyas, Pant, Mayank, Hardik and even Jaddu. This will augur well for Team India across formats. "
Time for the presentation.
Janareddy: "Rahul and avesh combined should be the player of the match"
Krunal Pandya: "Best feeling to contribute. Had a great run with Mumbai indians, but this is a different franchise. I genuinely feel this is my first IPL season, that's how excited I am. The way boys have come back, it is showing that we know we can do something special."
Rakspace: "Full marks today for Rahul's captaincy. He is often criticized for his captaincy, but today he was spot on with bowling changes in the end."
Williamson, the losing captain: "Much better performance from the last outing. Our powerplay bowling was good with three wickets. If only we could break the next partnership but credit to Deepak Hooda and KL Rahul. That was the difference to take them to 170. There were glimpses where we put ourselves in positions to get over the line with the bat, but wasn't good enough. It was a good surface. We knew if we can get some good partnerships, there was enough power in the hut. We'll reflect on the small margins and look at the positives. I think the guys with the bowling roles were good. Some key death overs from us too. They were arguably wanting a few more runs as well. A few ones and a few twos and the chase would've taken a different shape. The game is a game of small margins but we don't want to get too far ahead and try to look back on those good bits."
The Super Giants motley crew once again win a game that they had to scrap a lot for. Wins like these will give them confidence that they can get the job done even when on the back foot. Also a sigh of relief for captains who worry too much about the toss deciding the result.
11.19pm the last three overs were impeccable from the experienced Super Giants bowlers. Avesh got the two wickets at a point when Sunrisers were ahead in the contest. Andrew Tye then conceded only 10, and with 16 needed off the last over, Jason Holder kept finding the yorker when it mattered the most. Sunrisers needed 33 in 18 balls, managed only 20. Super Giants now one of five teams on four points each.
Back to the drawing board for Sunrisers, who clearly have issues with the batting order and where their best batters should fit in. Expect some changes before their next match on Saturday.
Mustafa Moudi : "DK scored the winning run against KKR and now Holder defending it against SRH - beauty of Mega Auction !!"
Moiz: "When you have genuine openers like Markram and R Tripathi then why open with less experience player and bring them under pressure. It's not good from a team like SRH."
