That wraps up our BBL coverage of a spicy Melbourne derby. Renegades climb back up to 3rd on the table. Stars remain anchored in 7th. Thanks for your company.
Tom Rogers is Player of the Match: "I didn't think I bowled too well the last couple of games. I was a little bit under the weather the last couple of games. But I woke up this morning and everything felt right. Had a birthday dinner with my niece last night. Spirits were high and everything just seemed to click and it came out really nicely." [Rogers was asked if he was fired up after the attempted run out]: "Definitely. I like to embrace that rivalry that the Renegades have with the Stars. There were plenty of [Victoria] teammates between both sides but there's definitely a rivalry between the two teams but I'm more than happy to add to that. Obviously there was a bit of spice towards the back end of the innings. It's obviously a different way to how I would go about things. So I was pretty excited to get out there with the ball." [How did it unfold and what was said between you and Adam Zampa?] "Nothing too much was said. When it came up not out I was pretty stoked actually. Because it's been a bit of the flavour of the month I was actually trying to stay in my crease for as long as I could. So I was pretty happy the not out came up because I didn't think that I had left too early." [Were you sure of the rule?] "Ah no. But the umpires are doing a great job so we'll leave it up to them."
Renegades win by 33 runs. Sam Harper on mic: "Clinical with the ball. We felt we were 15-20 short with the bat. We needed the win. We're back in the hunt."
Tom Rogers was the star taking 5 for 15 but Mujeeb's 2 for 7 from four was just as important. Magnificent performance by the Renegades. But the game will be remembered for the controversy at the end of the Renegades innings when Adam Zampa attempted to run Rogers out at non-striker's after completing his bowling action without releasing the ball.
It was ruled not out because Zampa had turned his arm over before taking the bails off, but he says he wasn't sure he would have withdrawn the appeal had it stood
