10.39 pm Renegades looked like they badly stuffed up the match with a dreadful final few overs batting in the first innings. But the bowlers step up magnificently at the death with Pattinson closing the match out in dramatic fashion. Fraser-McGurk's leaping boundary catch was also a catalyst for the turnaround in the field, teaming with Zahir Khan for one of the Afghan's three wickets.
Player of the Match is Zahir Khan: "Today is my day. The captain and Nabi supports me in the ground. The coaching staff and management is always good supporting the young players."
Renegades stand-in captain Kane Richardson: "It was a juggling effort but we should be happy with that kind of effort. We have great confidence in our bowling attack. We weren't perfect but we scrapped our way. Having Nabi at mid-off, an international captain, is pretty handy. Zahir is a massive recruit for us. We lacked a class overseas spinner last year and I think he'll be huge for us throughout the season. It's been awhile watching cricket not playing since that first World Cup warmup game so I was a bit nervous. We batted first to get those young guys into the game. They've got a great bowling attack and we didn't want to put our young guys under pressure batting second against that bowling unit if they got a big total."
That's it from me tonight. Come back tomorrow for a BBL doubleheader. I'm Peter Della Penna, take care!
Four takes the match to a Super Over. Five (or really a six) to win.
From 9 off 6, the Strikers now need 7 off 2...
9 off 4 balls to win now... Siddle enters off strike.
