8:55 pm After winning the toss and electing to bowl, the Brisbane Heat managed to pull off a strong comeback to restrict the Sydney Thunder to a total just below 200, despite early signs of another massive score. The Thunder got off to a perfect start, fueled by a 17 run second over from Xavier Bartlett, and reached 37/0 within the first four overs. The openers consistently found the gaps and ran well between the wickets, reaching 100 runs in just 10 overs. The Heat's frustration grew when Jack Wildermuth dropped Matthew Gilkes just before the drinks break, as both batters continued to dominate the bowling. However, the 127 run opening stand finally ended when Wildermuth rushed Sam Konstas with a short ball that was pulled straight to deep square leg; Konstas departed for a well-made 63. Following his departure, the scoring rate slowed. Sam Billings provided a brief 25 run cameo before heading back to the hut, and Gilkes was eventually dismissed for 76 runs by a searing Shaheen Afridi yorker in the 19th over. The Heat's death bowling was superb, as they stuck to their plans and dried up the boundaries. Wildermuth finished with two wickets, while Afridi and Matthew Kuhnemann claimed one apiece.
