Several records, unsurprisingly, were broken during that innings. Maxwell and Mir put on 81 for the eighth wicket, which is now a BBL record. Maxwell hit ten sixes - the most in a T20 innings in his career and the Stars managed 90 after the fall of the seventh wicket, which is another BBL record now.

8:55pm Glenn Maxwell. That is it. That is the story of this innings. He walked in when the Stars were tottering at 45-4. That soon became 75-7, but like he did against Afghanistan all those months ago in Mumbai, he produced a batting display for the ages. He farmed the strike, refused singles and continued smashing the ball to all parts, hitting ten sixes that included a 122m monster. It was, simply put, one of the best T20 innings that you will probably ever see. It did not get a fairy tale ending, the Stars now have plenty to bowl at, and have momentum on their side.

Which is not something the Renegades can say. They were almost spotless in the first half, but then ran into Maxwell, and quickly ran out of ideas. They could have bowled better lengths and hatched better plans, but now, they have to shift their focus to the target, which is much higher than what they would have anticipated, but probably still remains within reach. Join us in a bit for the chase!

Zampa to Siddle, OUT, goes high up, and taken at long on! Zampa drops it short after seeing Siddle advance. He has a go at it anyway but gets it right off the toe-end. Sutherland settles under it at long on and makes no mistake. The Stars have been bowled out for 165!

Zampa to Siddle, no run, short on off. Siddle rocks back and pulls it straight to mid wicket. The shot was there to be played but he just could not find the gap

Richardson to Siddle, 1 wide, Richardson is really struggling here. This is short and a mile outside off. Left alone and called a wide, and that will be that for Richardson with the ball tonight

Richardson to Siddle, FOUR, what a shot! Siddle turning back the clock! Back of a length on off. Sits up and Siddle, giving himself room, crashes it over mid off. Sweet sound off the bat and this is a very handy cameo!

Richardson to Siddle, 2 runs, dropped first ball! Dug into the track on middle and leg. Siddle backs away and swats it towards mid on. Sutherland makes an absolute meal of it and may not have even gotten his hands to it in the end. Goes through his legs and Siddle gets two

Siddle is the last man in

Richardson to Maxwell, OUT, chopped on! The Maxwell classic does not have the ending it deserved, but everyone at the stadium and at home will stand up and applaud an epic! Shortish outside off and this skids on a little low. Maxwell hacks at it and gets an inside edge that lights up the stumps. Maxwell raises his bat as he walks off, and this innings, irrespective of what happens later in the game, will be talked about in Melbourne, in Australia and pretty much everywhere around the cricketing world!

Bethell to Usama Mir, OUT, straight up, and taken! Three dots in a row, including a wicket, with Maxwell still off strike! Follows the batter outside leg with a length ball. Mir has an enormous whoosh across the line and gets a fat top edge. The ball swirls and swirls, and Brown does the rest at mid wicket! Maxwell is gutted and frustrated at the other end!

Bethell to Usama Mir, no run, a wild swing and has Mir been stumped?! Back of a length on middle and off. Holds in the surface and spins just enough. Not that it needed much to go past that ugly hack. Mir swung so hard that he, in his follow-through, was able to jam his bat back inside the crease. Just safe, and Mir stays!

Usama on strike. Finally. For just the third time in this partnership that has lasted 43 balls. And to add to the drama, Bethell has to bowl the 19th. Around the wicket

Sutherland to Maxwell, no run, back of a length on middle and off. Maxwell clears his front leg and heaves it towards deep mid wicket. Mir runs all the way to the other end and back, with Maxwell refusing the run. Dot ball in the end

Sutherland to Maxwell, SIX, three sixes in a row! Oh my word, this is the sort of batting display that makes you run out of superlatives! Dug into the track outside off. Maxwell rocks up onto his toes and pounds it over cow corner!

Sutherland to Maxwell, SIX, going, going, gone! Attempted slower ball that ends up as a borderline waist-high full toss. Seems to dip and Maxwell pummels it over deep square leg! Maxwell not happy that the No ball was not given and to be fair to him, he might have had a case there!
