8:50pm A strange innings. It began with the Thunder losing both of their openers cheaply, before Bancroft and Ollie got things back on track, with Ollie's three sixes in an over against Murphy setting the tone for the first half. With the foundation set, though, they floundered and could not make the most of the back half. Bancroft and Billings did just enough to ensure they got past 160.

A decent effort to pull things back by the Sixers. Hosein was the pick of their bowlers, with Dwarshuis not far behind. Edwards did not do much wrong either and they will feel pleased they kept the Thunder down to 163. That said, this is not the easiest surfaces to start on and if the Sixers are to win this, they will need partnerships. Very much game-on heading into the break, and we will be back shortly for the chase!

Edwards to Billings, 1 run, low full toss wide outside off. Billings reaches out for it and powers it on the bounce to Henriques, who fields it calmly and keeps it to a single

Last ball coming up. Can Thunder go past 165?

1
Edwards to Bancroft, 1 run, brilliant wide yorker. Billings cannot get under it and squeezes it out towards extra cover
19.4
1
Edwards to Billings, 1 run, low full toss speared into middle and leg. Billings squirts it away towards mid wicket. He will feel he missed out there
19.3
6
Edwards to Billings, SIX, follows up the four with a maximum! Slower ball on a length on middle and leg. Billings picks the variation, gets inside the line and hoicks it over the deep backward square leg fence!
19.2
4
Edwards to Billings, FOUR, finds the gap and more importantly, finds the fence! Misses the wide yorker by an inch and Billings capitalizes. Sits deep in his crease and cracks it between extra cover and mid off
19.1
1
Edwards to Bancroft, 1 run, low full toss just outside off. Bancroft cloths it terribly towards mid off. Just a single

The momentum has been sucked out of this innings completely, and the ceiling has quickly come down. Can the Thunder reach 160? Edwards, who has been very frugal, to bowl the last

Abbott to Bancroft, 1 run, top yorker to finish off. Tailing into the pads and Bancroft can only tuck it off his toes towards deep square leg

0
Abbott to Bancroft, no run, full and wide again. Bancroft, in trying to smash the cover off the ball, only ends up shanking it back to the bowler
18.4
0
Abbott to Bancroft, no run, length ball wide outside off. Bancroft ends up dragging it towards the bowler. Had Abbott gathered cleanly, Billings was well out of his crease, having backed up for the single
18.3
4
Abbott to Bancroft, FOUR, shot! Full and wide outside off. Not as full as the previous two balls and that prompts Bancroft to bring out the reverse-lap and get it over short third!

Walt: "Surge really backfired there! Why didn't they take it in the 11th/12th over with two set batters? Really odd choice." -- Agreed. Would have made more sense when Bancroft and Ollie were at it

1
Abbott to Billings, 1 run, another excellent yorker, this time hugging the tramlines outside off. Billings clinks it out into the off side for a single
18.1
0
Abbott to Billings, no run, into the blockhole on middle and off. Billings digs it out towards the bowler

Abbott to bowl the 19th. 170 looking a little more distant now

Davies to Billings, 1 run, thrown up wide outside off. Billings advances and square-drives it towards deep point
17.1
1
Davies to Bancroft, 1 run, back of a length on leg stump. Bancroft goes back and works it towards deep mid wicket

Arfaa: "I'd really like to see the stats for the surge. It almost always seems to do more harm than good to the batting side. " -- Not sure about the numbers, but it does feel that way, especially if a new batter comes in because rotating strike is much tougher with the field up

Dwarshuis to Billings, no run, oh! Length ball on middle and leg. Billings clears his front leg and looks to hit this into the ocean. Only grabs a handful of fresh air

Dwarshuis to Billings, no run, hard length just outside off. Comes off slower than Billings expects and he drags it towards the bowler

The Power Surge has been a bit of a power failure for the Thunder so far. Can Billings rescue this situation?

Dwarshuis to Sams, OUT, goes straight up, and Sams is back in the shed! Angled in full on middle and leg. Sams looks at the length and reckons he can go downtown. The ball, though, holds in the surface just enough, meddling with Sams' timing. Clinks it right off the toe-end and Henriques does the rest at mid on!

2
Dwarshuis to Sams, 2 runs, full toss wide outside off. Sams throws his hands at it and slices it over backward point. Joel comes around from deep point and reins it in

Right. Sams strides in. This could be a crucial passage in the game. Sams could power his side to 170 and beyond. Around the wicket

Dwarshuis to Rutherford, OUT, stumps smashed, and that was a brilliant yorker! Searing yorker that seems to tail into leg stump very late. Rutherford looks to dig it out but does so in vain. The ball sneaks under the toe-end and then knocks back leg stump. Excellent planning, and even better execution!
