It's a belter of a pitch but smart bowling can find rewards. Ellis expected it to stay good in the second half. Let's see if it does in the chase and how Renegades' bowlers go. Stay tuned.
The drama in the last over will need clarification on a couple of things. Whether the timer was slow, whether Hurricanes were informed about the penalty, or whether it was just Hurricanes missing it. Kudos to Sutherland, though, for being alert about it.
8:51pm An innings of multiple shades and phases. The start was belligerent thanks to QDK and Clarke. Ellis was brilliant and got them back in the game with a tight over at the end of the powerplay. The openers got back to rhythm again but Hooley Dooley got two in two in the eighth over and Ellis cleaned up Clarke with a searing ball that ripped out middle stump. Finch and Maddinson steadied the ship but couldn't find their timing. They managed to get a couple of late hits but a collective 49 off 46 pegged them back. The spinners, Dooley and David (who came back well after being taken down at the start), kept the middle overs relatively quiet. Wells, Finch, and Sutherland went as hard as they could late in the piece, 63 off the last five to take them to 183.
