8.20pm Righto, folks. I'm going to wrap up the commentary for the night. They'll be more reaction to this (non) result on the site in the coming hours. I'll be back tomorrow for Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers. Until then, it's goodnight.
8.15pm "We knew there were some doubts over the wicket but we made a fair go of it," says Ashton Turner. "We had enough evidence to call the game. The umpires made a really difficult decision but the right decision. Fortunately no one got hurt."
Turner adds there may need to be some flexibility in playing conditions, and even suggests the ability to play from one end in such situations.
8.05pm Match abandoned due to unsafe pitch "It was too dangerous," says Ricky Ponting. A night of drama in the BBL. They'll be some fallout from this.
8.00pm Match referee has called the captains inside again. "We had so much rain yesterday, it's just unfortunate," says Aaron Finch. "A few things happening that were slightly dangerous."
Adarsh: "On an unplayable pitch, Aaron Hardie's 20 off 23 balls seems like a masterclass."
Chris: "Is the water damage just at one end? If so, can all the overs be bowled from the other end?" In reality, that isn't going to happen
7.55pm Umpires are now meeting with Cricket Australia. Not entirely sure what the organisers have to do it. Match officials are in charge of the game
Serge: "If only there was a stadium a few kilometers down the road."
Nic Maddinson reiterates that it's about player safety. "It's beyond saving," Glenn Maxwell says of the pitch
7.50pm Captains are now getting together with the umpires and heading into the changing rooms
Rowland: "I'm know this isn't a real option option but I'm thinking why can't the umpires say to both captains we are only bowling spinners for the remainder of the game?"
Colin: "A bit annoying that the game is only about batsmen. When we get a pitch favourable to the bowlers we stop the game!" There's concerns it's gone too far and could become dangerous
7.45pm The umpires are having a chat. We could have an issue here. Play has been suspended. Nic Maddison says it's probably not safe. Divots appearing on the pitch. Big story developing here. The match referee is coming out. There was a lot of rain in the days leading into the game and it got under the covers. Umpires, groundsman and match referee are talking
J-Lingz: "Perhaps easy to say after 1 poor innings on what may be a tough pitch, but surely Connolly should still be batting 5 in this team, with either Evans or Inglis opening? They are better players at the moment so should be facing as many balls as possible"

Yoel: "A low scoring game will be to the advantage of Perth. They have the bowling attack to make any life misery."
