10.14 pm And so completes the largest margin of victory in BBL history. The Sixers hold the top two now after the previous highest total of a 145-run win made by Sixers over Renegades last year. Stars have lost this match by 152 runs. One Melbourne franchise replaces the other on the wrong side of BBL history.
Josh Philippe is the Player of the Match: "It was just a great performance by all the boys. Me and Vinny started beautifully and then Moises finished it off. Everyone chips in. A couple of 50s and lots of guys taking wickets. It's our home ground so we're very familiar with conditions and it's a great way to start."
Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell: "I thought the way that Brody Couch and Sam Elliott found their way through the back end overs, they fought their way back against some experienced players. I thought Syed bowled pretty well but they had some batters who counterattacked. I was disappointed with the batters. I didn't bowl one off spinner tonight. I just bowled knuckle balls and a little inswinger to keep it away from that shorter side. We're hoping to have Stoinis next game and Coulter-Nile coming back. Qais Ahmad is coming in. Hopefully Joe Burns is coming in next Monday as well."
Sixers captain Moises Henriques: "It was a nice start wasn't it. The two openers got us off to a nice start and we never took the foot off after it. I was made aware [of Hayden Kerr being on a hat-trick] but I thought a five-for for SOK was more important. Hayden's got plenty of years left to get a hat-trick. I thought when bowlers hit the wicket hard, it was quite hard to it. I think the height, pace and bounce with our experienced bowlers, as we saw from Sean Abbott tonight, I thought his first two overs were fantastic. It's always nice to have people get their confidence early in the competition rather than having to chase your tail. We've got a terrific team with a lot of big names on the list but names on the list don't win you games."
That's it from us tonight. For Alex Malcolm and the scoring team, I'm Peter Della Penna. Come back tomorrow for more BBL action. Take care!

Tom Curran now on to bowl his second. Hayden Kerr's hat-trick ball will not happen.

Kerr remains conspicuously on a hat-trick ball that is yet to be bowled....
So the Renegades lowest total in BBL history remains. They're still open for largest margin of defeat though...

Drinks break in Sydney. Again, two ignominious records the Stars are trying to avoid here could fall together. Lowest BBL total (57) and widest margin of defeat (145 runs) which are both currently held by the Melbourne Renegades. Maybe the Stars want to let the Sixers get past both to ensure their cross-city rivals remain in the record books.
The current record low total in BBL history is 57 made by Renegades in 2015.
Current record margin of defeat in BBL is 145 runs by Sixers over Renegades last year when Sixers made their previous franchise best of 205. Here's Chris Jordan back into the attack, around the wicket.

Umanga: "First game of the season and sixers all over the stars and looking the team to beat..as for the stars loosing heavily means dent in net run rate and they will be behind already for the upcoming matches."
Leg slip joins slip for the hat-trick ball.
Can O'Keefe claim five and a hat-trick at once? Faridoun to face the hat-trick ball on BBL debut. The crowd starts to clap.

Cheers. Here's SOK to continue, trying to beat Abbott to a five-for.
