8.23pm: And breathe. Huge total on a belting pitch at Adelaide Oval. Hales starred with the second hundred of the competition - and the second in as many nights - and will rightly get the headlines after an outrageous innings which will doubtless re-ignite the debate around his England exile. But don't forget the contributions made by his team-mates - it would have been easy for any of them to knock it around and give him the strike but every new batsman showed their attacking intent from the outset, with Ferguson, Billings and Cutting all contributing with handy cameos. A fairly miserable effort from the table-toppers with the ball. We'll be back shortly to see what Josh Philippe and co. can do in the chase.

Dwarshuis to McAndrew, 2 runs, length ball, slapped out to long-off and Davies scampers back for a second. A BBL-record total: 5 for 232

W
Dwarshuis to Cutting, OUT, picks out long-off this time. Doesn't quite nail the yorker, half-volley length, but the bat turns in his hands and the man on the rope takes the catch. Brilliant cameo

4
Dwarshuis to Cutting, FOUR, another full toss, and Cutting picks his spot, finding the gap between midwicket and long-on! Not timed, but perfect placement
19.3
2
Dwarshuis to Cutting, 2 runs, yorker outside off, heaved out towards midwicket, and they sneak through for a second run
19.2
6
Dwarshuis to Cutting, SIX, slower ball, dumped over long-on and into the sightscreen! Brings up the highest-ever team total in BBL history! In the slot, and Cutting sits deep in the crease, clubbing it dead-straight down the ground
19.1
1
Dwarshuis to McAndrew, 1 run, full toss outside off, pressed down to long-on

Dwarshuis returns.

The highest-ever BBL total is 223, by the Hurricanes against the Renegades. The Thunder are about to surpass it, if they can manage seven off the 20th over

Brathwaite to Cutting, FOUR, full toss outside off, frees his arms, and clears mid-off inside the ring! Races away for four.

Quietly, this has been a seriously good over from Brathwaite, bowling in the Surge and at the death. McAndrew is sent in ahead of Davies at No. 6

W
Brathwaite to Hales, OUT, short, Hales swats at it, and picks out Silk at deep square! Brings an epic innings to an end. Banged in, very short at the right shoulder, and Silk ran in off the rope to take a good catch diving forward. Adelaide Oval stands to applaud Hales, and he gets high-fives galore in the dugout. Big smile on his face

Brathwaite to Hales, no run, full toss, but Hales misses out. He shimmied outside leg, but was cramped for room and couldn't beat the infield

Anthony: "Dear Eoin. Forgive and forget, please. Many thanks, all England fans."

18.3
6
Brathwaite to Hales, SIX, shimmies down the pitch and flicks him over midwicket for six more! Flicks the back leg, flamingo-style, and there's nobody on the rope. Not fully timed, but it lands just the right side of the rope from the Thunder's perspective
18.2
1
Brathwaite to Cutting, 1 run, straight yorker, dug out to long-on

Brathwaite to Cutting, 1 wide, full outside leg, wide given. Philippe dives to his left, tidy work
18.1
1
Brathwaite to Hales, 1 run, yorker on the pads, dug out back to the bowler, Brathwaite tries to throw down the stumps with Cutting stranded and he misses! Overthrow down to long-off

Second Surge over. Brathwaite to bowl it. He'll stick with this round-the-wicket plan

Summer Joe: "There is absolutely no reason on a skills perspective for Hales to not be in the Eng team. Seems like Morgan has a personal grudge against him. Honestly, he should be in the playing XI - he is that good. Looking forward to seeing him in the IPL this year."

Shaun: "Is there an Alex playing tomorrow? Could get a hundred. Yesterday Alex Carey, today Alex Hales..."

6
Christian to Cutting, SIX, in the slot, and Cutting dumps him over long-on for six more! 25 off the over! Misses his yorker once again, and Cutting isn't going to miss out on that. Brings up 200 for the Thunder and they have every chance of making the highest-ever BBL total
17.5
1
Christian to Hales, 1 run, worked into the leg side, only one this time
17.4
4
Christian to Hales, FOUR, full and wide outside off, Hales carves it over backward point and there's the ton! The second of the season after Carey's last night. Superb knock. Takes 51 balls with nine fours and seven sixes
17.3
4
Christian to Hales, FOUR, full toss on leg stump, and Brathwaite can't get underneath it on the rope! Mistimed, giving Brathwaite a chance running to his left at deep backward square, but he couldn't get a hand on it and it gets away for a one-bounce four
17.2
6
Christian to Hales, SIX, that's gone absolutely miles up, and has plenty of distance on it too! In the slot, and Hales tucks in, crashing him over long-on for six. This is Hales' highest score in his BBL career
17.1
4
Christian to Hales, FOUR, full toss outside off, carved over the off side for four! Shocking start from Christian, and Hales only needed to get a toe-end on it to clear the ring

Power Surge time. Only two fielders allowed outside the ring. Christian to bowl it. Looks like it'll be his usual plan, round the wicket to the right-handers trying to hit the boot with a yorker

Josh: "Could this be the highest Big Bash total ever on the cards ?? Chasing 223.... " -- Will take a good finish from here but it's definitely possible. Here's the list
