10.48 pm: Hobart Hurricanes pocket 3 points. Sydney Sixers get 1 point, for being ahead at the 10-over mark. I can foresee a lot of discussion around this rule, but that's for later on in the tournament. For now, this is Saurabh Somani, signing off, on behalf of Chandan too.
Tim David is the player of the match. "Was glad we could get to a good score. Lots of new faces but it's been great fun. Awesome to start with a win, we're stoked."
Stats maven Shiva Jayaraman has this shrewd observation: "Contrasting results of taking the Power Surge for the teams in this game. In six overs since taking the Power Surge Hobart Hurricanes scored 82 runs at 13.66 runs an over. In six overs since Sydney Sixers took the Power Surge, they managed just 42 runs. Sixers had raced to 99/1 from 11 overs before opting for Power Surge."
10.41 pm: Hurricanes have won by 16 runs. Superb contest all the way through, both teams had it in their grasp at various times, but the Hurricanes were better with the ball in the latter half than the Sixers were. The defending champions open their campaign with a loss. Superb hands by Ingram first up, and then David really cut loose for Hurricanes. Meredith provided the firepower with the ball after Vince and Edwards had set the chase up for Sixers well.

38 off 18 now. Getting tougher. Six of those 18 will be bowled by Meredith. And he's on now. Interesting move. I'd have thought he might come on in the 19th over.

Lachlan : "Surely Braithwaite is in next? Don't know why the Sixers haven't sent him in already. Don't they know he can hit a long ball? #Kolkata2016"
46 off 24. Nearly two runs a ball needed now. Ellis to bowl. They're holding back one over of Meredith.
Abishek: "Meredith really cranking it up now. With that action you dont really expect him to bowl 150Ks but he's letting it roar tonight!"
