The same surface as that between India and Australia earlier in the tournament was used today, and Afghanistan picked four spinners. The combined figures of three of them - Noor, Nabi and Rashid - read 30-0-121-5; the pace bowlers Naveen and Omarzai, on the other hand, conceded 102 across their 12 overs. Join us for the chase soon though, with Ashish to be back in a while.

ASB: "Excellent last over by Naveen - 2 wickets and 3 runs only - but 58 runs in previous 4 overs may have done the damage to tilt the match in Pakistan's favour. "

Abdullah Shafique: "All of our guys have to have confidence in them. We knew that the wicket will spin - and that they have world-class spinners - so we just believed in ourselves. Partnerships play a key role, and we had that in mind."

Magizh: "50 above par methinks!"

5.40pm Are Pakistan 20 short, or have they got 20 too many? It took an audacious sixth-wicket stand of 73 off just 45 balls between Ifthikar and Shadab for Pakistan to finish at 282. Ifthikar's strike rate in smashing 40 was 148 - and Shadab's for the same score was 105 - after all those before them mostly struggled to get going. But Babar hit 74 and Shafique got 58 in contributions from the top order, as Afghanistan will rue what went wrong in the end.

Naveen-ul-Haq to Shadab Khan, OUT, finds the man at long-on! He looked to have a swing, but mistimed this one. The ball was short and wide of off, and so Shadab didn't really end up placing that one where he would have liked. The ball ended up travelling down the pitch - perhaps also because of the slowness of the surface - as Naveen got another wicket in the over

Six to finish off?

1
Naveen-ul-Haq to Shaheen Shah Afridi, 1 run, Afridi walks out, and Naveen bowls a yorker length on middle and off. Jammed down to the leg side, and Pakistan have Shadab back on strike

Naveen-ul-Haq to Shaheen Shah Afridi, no run, beaten by the lack of pace. Pitches it short and outside off, while bowling a slower ball. Afridi has a pull, but is into his shot too early

2
Naveen-ul-Haq to Shaheen Shah Afridi, 2 runs, and they take two! Afridi has half a swing at this fullish ball, which he ends up pushing to deep midwicket off the inside half of the bat

Afridi in, with Naveen from around

Naveen-ul-Haq to Iftikhar Ahmed, OUT, taken at deep extra cover! Ifthikar's party ends, but it did spoil Afghanistan's afternoon. He looked to loft this inside out, seeing that the ball was on a length, and wide of off. He got the elevation - and the ball travelled quickly too - but went right into the lap of the fielder on the boundary to finish a solid cameo

Naveen-ul-Haq to Iftikhar Ahmed, no run, this is not given wide, even if it is bowled full and wide of off, because Ifthikar was across the stumps pretty early. Ultimately he looked to slash, but missed

Taha: "Did you say Pakistan supporters? Are there Pakistani supporters in the stand?" --- Yup, surely

Azmatullah Omarzai to Shadab Khan, 2 runs, on a length just outside off, and swatted to extra cover. The man there dived to his right, but directed the ball towards long-off. So Shadab got two again

Azmatullah Omarzai to Shadab Khan, 2 runs, low, dipping full toss on off. Heaved across to deep midwicket, and they rush back for two

1
Azmatullah Omarzai to Iftikhar Ahmed, 1 run, good work by the man at short third, as he tumbles to his right to potentially stop three runs. The ball was shortish and wide of off, as Ifthikar looked to stab that away using the pace

Azmatullah Omarzai to Iftikhar Ahmed, 1 wide, now this is wide outside off. He shaped to get across, and the bowler went on a length, and wide of off. Ifthikar left that alone

Azmatullah Omarzai to Iftikhar Ahmed, 1 wide, another wide, with the ball being too short. He only had to half-duck there
