Amiya: "Decent score from Afg. Need a couple of early wickets to make the match interesting." Yup, see you on the other side.
Mustafa Moudi: "Fun Fact: The Last time India Chased against Afghanistan, The Result was a Tie. Also India's second game (against England) in the last World Cup hosted by India (2011) resulted in a Tie too and this is their 2nd match. Interestingly, that match was played on the date 27/2, which is Afghanistan's Total Today - 272. Are these indications of another Tie tonight ??"
Vinay Sagar: "Expected 260.. scored 12 runs more..260 is enough, if Mujeeb and Rashid get a bit of help from the pitch.." Whether there'll be dew or not could also be a part of the equation.
Gurlivleen: "It is not even close to a good score. Given the teams, probably 80 short, if not 100 . They should have sent Zadran and Nabi up the order. They upping the ante was the only way to get a win. It is not like playing safe would get Afg near qualifying for the semis so why not go out and attack on such a batting pitch with such short boundaries?" Yes, but they also deserve credit for not bundling over, which was a serious threat after losing two key bats with the score on 63.
Azmatullah Omarzai: I'm very happy to get my first World Cup against India in India. Hope to carry my form in the future. We lost early wickets and were trying to rotate strike, wait for the loose ball and we did it. Hashmat also did well, enjoyed it. We tried to score 300 but we lost too many wickets in the middle. It's a good total, we have good spinners and will try our best to defend it.
5:59pm The innings fizzled in the last ten but Afghanistan finish with 272, their second-highest total in ODI World Cups. Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai were the key contributors, they made 80 and 62 respectively and put on a 121-run stand off 128 balls, which rose through the gears gradually. They came in after Bumrah outclassed Zadran to have him caught behind and Gurbaz being bounced out by Pandya. The first two ten-over blocks went for 48 for 1 and 35 for 2 but their calculated risks, especially from Omarzai against Kuldeep, helped them tick and put up 64 in the third and fourth ten-over blocks. Siraj had an off day for India. Hardik got two key wickets and controlled his lengths decently. Kuldeep's good form continued. Jadeja's quick, economical bowling probably saved India from being forced to have an extra fielder in the ring for an extra over or two. Nabi couldn't get going for Afghanistan and the lower-middle order could only make short contributions. In the end, they have something to defend.
Kohli chants still goin'
