We look forward to your company in the second ODI. Till then, this is goodbye from Rvel Zahid, Rashad Mahbub and Harshith Gowda
Bangladesh won by 74 runs Bangladesh feasted on spin-friendly conditions and made full use of their home advantage, creating enormous woes for the West Indies batters. The visitors started off brightly and were unscathed at 50 but once the middle overs arrived, the situation changed dramatically. Brandon King struck a well-paced 44 off 60, with Alick Athanaze playing the perfect supporting role with 27 off 36. However, the introduction of spin opened the floodgates, and the tormentor-in-chief, Rishad, ran riot, picking up six wickets and picking his first five-wicket haul in his budding career. This performance will surely give him a shot in the arm and inspire him toward bigger and loftier feats. Surely the undisputed candidate for Player of the Match, Rishad not only added a vital 26 runs with the bat but also broke the back of the West Indies lineup with a scintillating, masterclass display of leg-spin bowling. Mustafizur then came on to wrap up the tail, and Bangladesh enjoyed a comfortable, light day at the office
Shai Hope, West Indies Captain: Tough one. Got to put this one behind us. We've got two days to turn it around. They bowled really well in the middle period and stopped the flow of runs. It's important to take the learnings and come back stronger. On a surface like that, you're never really in; it's very important as an opening pair to set the tone, and they did that. We needed to build on that foundation. I don't think it's gonna change much--we've got to adjust, adapt, and find ways to beat Bangladesh (On the pitch)
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Bangladesh Captain: We played the last five matches but couldn't win, but we believed that we could come back strongly. Obviously, this is very important for us, and I think the boys played really well. We've been playing so many T20 matches in the last four or five series, but not many ODIs. Yes, credit to the batters - Shanto and Hridoy - and to the debutant; he was calm and cool and played the situation well. In the end, it was a great knock by Rishad. This year maybe we are playing our last series; hopefully, there will be more series coming next year. We have to play positively and get runs.
