9.46pm From 74 for 1 in the powerplay and 111 for 3 after ten overs, South Africa looked on course for a total in the 220-230 range. Instead, a late-innings squeeze from Mohammad Nawaz and, to a lesser extent, Saim Ayub restricted them to 194 for 9. Nawaz's left-arm spin brought him figures of 3 for 26, while Saim chipped in with 2 for 31. Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi, wayward with the new ball, came back strongly with the old one to close out the innings. South Africa wasted a flying start as de Kock and de Zorzi fell after promising beginnings; Reeza Hendricks' 40-ball 60 held the innings together until the 18th over, with George Linde's late cameo adding some respectability.
A target of 195 is below par by recent standards, and South Africa's bowling attack - and captain - are short on experience. Momentum sits firmly with Pakistan, and the home side will fancy their chances from here. See you on the other side where Babar Azam is expected to open the batting. He needs nine more runs to become the highest T20I run-getter of all time.
Yasser Saleem: "Only 101 runs in 75 and 8 wickets lost. From 93/1 in 7.3 to end on 194/9 is not good score on this ground which is the second highest scoring ground in the world. Amazing!"
Ahmad Ali: "why Faheem did not bowl?" -- beats me. Thought he should've bowled a couple in the death overs, maybe instead of Abrar's final over for starters.
Saulat Abbas: "One of those matches where both teams will feel ok on 200"
Roger: "SA needed Nadine de Klerk to help with the last overs..."
