Australia go 1-0 up after Marsh's brilliance. Robinson's outstanding century was overwhelmed in the end. New Zealand didn't have enough contributors elsewhere. The two sides front up again on Friday for game two but the weather forecast is not good with showers expected. Fingers crossed we get a game in. Please join us then. In the meantime tune into our coverage of the women's ODI World Cup where Australia and New Zealand are facing off in Indore.

10.30pm Presentation

Mitch Marsh is Player of the match: "It's really important in a three-match series to start off with a win. Nice to contribute. Heady and I have a great relationship off the field and tonight was a lot of fun with him. The way were playing has happened organically. We do have a lot of power in our batting line-up, hopefully it can continue. I thought we started really well with the ball tonight. The most pleasing thing was the way we handled the wind. We defended to the big side and backed our skill. We've been playing some really good cricket. It's a long build to the World Cup but nice to start well here."

Michael Bracewell: "In the powerplays in both innings we fell behind in the game. We did well as a batting unit to put a competitive total on the board. Ultimately Mitch and Travis took the game away from us. I think we can take a lot of positives. Those partnerships through the middle were particularly impressive. Tim Robinson played beautifully. He and Daryl took the game on from a difficult position."

10.24pm A cruise for Australia. Mitchell Marsh was sensational scoring 85 off 43. Marsh and Travis Head put on 67 in 5.3 overs to set the tone. Short and David made excellent contributions. New Zealand's bowlers had no answer to Australia's power. Australia hit 29 boundaries to New Zealand's 17.

Sampath Bandarupalli: The chasing team won for only the second time in 13 completed men's T20Is at Mount Maunganui. The other instance was New Zealand's win vs Bangladesh in a rain-affected game in 2023.
