8.56pm: What a difference two days makes. England had to battle hard with the bat on Saturday night, creeping up to 153 in tricky conditions, but 48 hours later have cruised to 236. Phil Salt's 89 got them off to a fast start, but he played second fiddle to Harry Brook throughout a partnership worth 129 in 69 balls for the third wicket. Some outrageous hitting from Brook in his 78 off 35, his first half-century as England's T20 captain, and Banton's late cameo ensured New Zealand will require their record run-chase in order to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The Black Caps were very shoddy with the ball and in the field, with Jimmy Neesham enduring a particularly tough evening. Join Alan in 10 to find out if things go any better with the bat...

Shayan: "Can't they just shake hands already?"

Paul: "That's some total and Phil Salt anchored the innings with the lowest strike rate of any batter other than Buttler."

Phil Salt is speaking on TVNZ. "The wicket has had a chance to dry out. A bit more pace in it. The slower balls started to grip once the lights came on. [Brook?] Brilliant fun. It makes my job really easy. When he's 20 off 10, it's so easy for me to just give him the strike. [Bowling plan?] I'm not going to go up to anyone and say it's an absolute belter! [Enough runs?] Bowl well and I think so."

Duffy to Banton, FOUR, outrageous batting! Banton scurries outside leg stump, Duffy looks to tuck him up with a back-of-length ball towards his ribs. But Banton adjusts late, and somehow squeezes this away into the gap between point and short third

Duffy loses his run-up as he reaches the umpire. Time to reload.

Duffy to Banton, 2 leg byes, low full toss, into the boot as Banton looks to work leg-side. They scamper back for two, but Santner reviews. And why not, with two left? Sliding a long way down leg, but worth a look at this stage

1
Duffy to Curran, 1 run, wide outside off, sliced out to Robinson at deep cover. Curran wants two, Banton doesn't

Cameron Ponsonby at Hagley Oval tells me that there's rain coming at 10pm local time. That should give us enough time to play with to ensure a result...

Jamieson to Curran, SIX, punched down the ground, Mitchell can only parry it over the rope! 200 up for England with two overs still to come. Full and straight, Curran launches straight and even though it's not out of the middle, Mitchell can't get there as he sprawls to his right

Jamieson to Salt, OUT, picks out long-off, and Bracewell does brilliantly to keep his balance! Slower ball, in the slot, which Salt looks to launch straight. But he doesn't quite get all of it, and Bracewell avoids toppling over on the rope. Takes it above his head, and his foot was just inside the boundary

Jamieson to Brook, OUT, tumbling catch by Robinson at deep midwicket! Brook finally falls after a sparkling innings. Slower ball, halfway down.
